Went to Ollies today seen they had some of these on close out for 39.99 dollars. Picked up one. They are not top of the line, they have no NFL logos with them, just solid color teams, I think its a 32x16 styrene playing field playing field. Be a nice starter set. hillbilly

As you know, that game has a lot of fans around here. I go so far back, I wasn't aware they still made it. I wonder if a plastic field is different from the sheet steel ones I knew.

Is that rectangular slot in the base where you put the ball for the man to “carry” the felt football? We had to wedge the ball in the runner’s arm. That resulted in lots of fumbles. This version looks too foolproof. Still flick their little arms to pass. Just like slots I used to repaint the teams back in the day.

No sir. Those slots are so the players are compatible with older/classic bases that had a single tab in the center.



They were the original plastic bases starting in 65. Still made today and referred as "rookie" bases.

Help me remember, guys. I remember a metal spring-loaded kicker. And I remember the little vanes under the players as clear, brittle plastic. But the fore-and-aft clip-on thing under these players also looks really familiar. Am I remembering different eras? There were 3 of these in my neighborhood (I never had one of my own, my father hated the noise). I could be remembering a conglomeration of all of them.

You are right. In the late fifties/early sixties the figures were red and yellow. The linemen were in a 3 point stance. The Kicker/Passer was metal and the feet were a clear hard plastic. Running backs had their right arm as if they were carrying the ball and the left arm was stuck out as if for a stiff-arm. Don't recall if any men were defense backs or not.

My first set was handed down to me from my cousin. Then I bought an upgraded addition when I was around 17. It is still at my moms house today.

Yeah, I remember we howled when the stiff-arm actually hit perfect and the runner sailed by. One of our guys' mother made us a pile of new footballs in several colors. We were all boys, so we used the white ones from the set until they were fuzzballs and still resisted the new ones she made. They were pink, baby blue, and green. THIS is why we built "no girls allowed" treehouses...

The first players were metal. These were included in the first sets in 1949.



I have two of these sets in my collection. One is with red and yellow players, the other, slightly harder to acquire, is with blue and white steel colored players.

In 51 the molds were changed to plastic to the first series of figures.

Now this the TUDOR brand. Other brands like Gotham and Coleco (yes before the handheld electric) made games too.

But Tudor has been and is today, the KING :)

You guys need to go to one of the many electric football forums, there is a fairly big following of this hobby from North Carolina, Maryland to Texas with new teams being made of custom figures complete with wire or brass face masks and decals for everything from numbers to gloves. About 20 years ago I participated in competition play from Virginia to Cleveland, Ohio. Today the serious game is played on custom boards of about 48" long by 24" wide made by several people in the hobby. These people are just as serious about painting, customizing and the tweaking of bases as slot car racers are about tuning their cars.

I remember getting one of the metal sets given to me for christmas when I had a paper route. It was of the metal figures that were blue and silver. I remember getting frustrated because the players would only go in tight little circles or just fall down. I lost interest in that game pretty quick. I don't remember what ever happened to that one but I do remember getting yelled out for it interfered with the ol' black and white tv.
