What a year! After the wedding, the fetching Mrs. Reinecke and I helped the newlyweds pack up and hit the road. Then we had to do some clean-up, storage optimization, and take some time to relax. To that point, we just took our first real vacation as a couple in 27 years. So, we packed up the Challenger and hit the road!

We visited South Dakota first and spent time at Mt. Rushmore, Bear Country USA, Custer State Park, Jewel Cave, Bad Lands, Ellsworth AFB, Spearfish, Deadwood, Wall Drug and everything in between. We then headed to Wyoming and hiked around Devil's Tower before heading to Yellowstone.

What a great time we had. Really nice people everywhere and some gorgeous country.

And, for those that care: 2600 miles, several high-speed runs, and the Challenger knocked down 25.2 MPG. Not bad for a 500 HP car ;) The Challenger handled everything I threw at it, and it was a JOY to drive through all the canyons and scenic byways. This thing handles like a 1:1 slot car!

A few pics from the trip:

I was born at Ellsworth AFB. My late father worked on the 52D’s here. I got this in his honor. We also did the tour of the missles…VERY cool.

Almost drove off the road when I saw this outside Beulah, WY! It is even spelled right! I didn't know we owned a ranch!

Looks like fun! Last time I saw Rushmore, I was 19. Some of those trees were saplings then, I bet. Actually, it really does appear much more wooded... Kinda looks better.

That '55 Pie Wagon Panel was worth trip by itself!

The last time my wife and I took a trip together was summer of 1972, during the gas crunch and we ran out of gas! I still go back to Ft.Benning, GA where I was born, but the old wooden infirmary was replaced decades ago, and there's a huge hospital there now.
