Commercial track closing

Well I got confirmation of the news that a local commercial track that has been around for 30 years is finally closing up shop. I forgot to get permission from the owner to specifically identify the shop so I won't as of now. I've been racing there for the last 8 years and after that long one begins to take it for granted that the place will be open forever. I'm sure glad now that I made the commitment to 1/32 scale about 6 years ago. On the plus side I may gain the two or three racers that will make running my track more fun.

I am shocked and surprised that this track is closing. Like you, I thought it was on solid ground financially after three successful decades. I have been there a few times when I visit Florida. I always enjoyed being in a shop with that much history. This is really a shame
Edited to add: After 30 years, maybe the owner is simply going to retire. I will bet that the real estate value of this business will provide a comfortable nest egg. As long as this is a voluntary move based on the owner's decision about what is best for him/her then it remains sad for the slot car community, but a good decision in the long run. All good things come to an end.

Sad to read this. When a track closes it is never replaced. We had our local hobby store close last year. They had a 6 lane,200 foot, Carrera track.

It is always sad to hear of a track closing. In my general area Elmsford closed up a couple of years ago and they had been in business since 1967. Recently I heard that Rapid Raceway in Plainville, CT was for sale, hopefully it will find a new owner.
