Getting ready for Dorian

It's looking more and more like hurricane Dorian is intent on hitting central Florida. I've had my carport cleared of objects that might turn into missiles and got the grass cut as it may be a while before there is another opportunity. I'm waiting until it gets closer to decide whether or not to bug out. Can't go anywhere that doesn't accept pets as there is no way I'm leaving my dog alone here.

Take care Bob. Totally understand having to have your buddy with you. We have 2 cats, Gilligan & Matilda, and we could never leave them behind either.

When I was a bayou boy on the Mississippi and Louisiana Gulf Coast, we had a wonderful old collie who was my best friend, and you can bet your butt he was always with us when the storms came boiling up out of the Gulf. Sometimes, while the grownups were getting things ready, Shep and I went down to the beach (2 short blocks away), to see the darkening edge of the horizon as it grew. You could see the top of the hurricane from 30 miles out, hours before it slammed us. That was years before the weather around the world became crazy dangerous the way it is now. Hurricane Camille topped out around 200mph in our area and was amazingly worse than any in history. Now, with the climate fouled up, every year at least one gets over 200. You watch your six o'clock, Bob. Its not the way it was out there.

Down here in the West Palm Beach area, very close to the expect landfall site for Dorian. We've had Cat 1 and near Cat 2 storms go over us, but never anything like this. Shutters are up. generator ready to rumble, food stocked. No hurricane parties here

Thanks for the invite Pappy but Ohio is a tad too far on my gas budget.

Looks like a rough one, hoping you do well, you know what to do. Gas up everything for sure, raid the atm. I flew air rescue out of Miami for fourteen years from the tail end of the boat lift til after Andrew. I didn’t miss a one, but the family bugged outta town.
If ya head to Pappy’s I’ll get your gas.
Cheers

Batten down the hatches! And standby for heavy rolls. Stay safe! That Ohio offer sounds good.

My eldest son and his wife are in Gainesville, and they have a big dog and a whiny cat. They haven't decided what they will do yet. My wife and I are trying to talk them into being safe.

Tracks today show that the storm may not come ashore, just parallel the coast and go north. We'll know for sure tomorrow sometime. Don't want any part of 140+MPH winds.

Yup, it pretty much missed us, at least with the high winds. But it's always best to prepare.

All I can say is "Thank God for man made climate change". It stalled the hurricane out before it made landfall, turned it north and down graded it to a category 1 hurricane before it might make landfall in North Carolina. :text-bravo: :D
