My Dad used a rail road tie years ago because he was tired of it constantly getting knocked down needing to be replaced on his busy street.
Needless to say after that he never needed to replace his mailbox post again.......

Hi bibbster!
Call around to some semi truck / heavy equipment shops and see if they have any cranks out of 6 cyl cats or cummins that are cracked. My uncle used one just for that many years ago, and its taken alot of hits and still standin. :)

That's a good one. It would work as well as a friend of mine's idea in Ripley, TN. He used a cotton picker spring (a very long steel coil spring 3 inches in diameter), mounted in concrete, which looks like a round post from a distance, but if you ever hit it, it bends over and snaps back hard enough to slap a wheel off a car. His knocked a welded steel rear bumper off a neighbor punk's truck. No more mailbox baseball- cured for life.
If that's too much weight, go to one of those farm auctions they run all around West Tennessee, and look for the old type of tractor jack. They look like a bumper jack on steroids. There will be one at most farm auctions, as they are dangerous, effective and everybody has one laying around. There's enough staff (the vertical part), to mount the mailbox and still have enough left to sink into a concrete base.

LOL! I've done that so many times, I actually recognize the people I am most likely to duplicate.

Just a cotton-pickin' minute!
Okay, we have a consensus. Jeremy, get thyself to a farm sale!

Prep-Sol is a sort of industry standard degreaser for paint prep. You should look into that.
