Car Books That Started It All (for some of us)

We are sorting through stuff getting ready for our "retirement move" in about a year. Have come across lot's of things I forgot I had and some "why did I keep that?" items.
Anyway going through my books I found copies of: Backyard Winner, The Black Tiger, Mexican Road Race (Black Tiger story) and Black Tiger at Lemans. I think I have one other Black Tiger book and haven't come across my copies of: The Red Car, Hot Rod, Street Rod, Boy Gets Car and Crash Club.
The Red Car got me hooked on sports cars and I was wondering what books some of the others on here attribute their love of the car world to?

Heroes of Stock Car Racing - 1975.

Not a book, but I devoured every issue of Car and Driver when I was in high school.

First book was at age 5 - it was a racing book that was about 150 pages in length and all pictures of everything from the beginning of racing. Early prewar Alfa was my favorite car. It went through the mid 1960's GP if I recall. Lost it in a move and have never been able to find it again. I wish I could remember the name or author.

Was already into racing but two books that I really like when they first came out and have read serveral times thoughout the years, Ford, The Dust and Glory of Ford Racing History and They Call Me Mister 500.

There were three:
There was some huge coffee table book about cars that my dad bought. Had all kinds of obscure cars in it, great book. Then there was "The Fabulous Porsche 917". Copied pages out of that and hung them in my locker at school. But the biggie was probably the AFX Handbook (Vol 2). I read that about a billion times.

But honestly, I was a car nut long before I could read, so the books didn't start it for me. My mom saved scrapbooks from when I was 3 years old, and everything I did was a crayon drawing of another grand prix car, then cut out with scissors. One after another after another.

For my brother and I, it was "The Encyclopedia of Motor Sport" I still have the book, it's big and thick, covers most drivers, cars and tracks till the print date, 1971. Leafing through it just now, we saved the pages to Parade Magazine with a cover story about Peter Revson, dated March 12, 1972.

In grade school, many....er...... all reports were done based on the info in this book. It's where I first read and tried to pronounce "Lothar Motschenbacher"

I have the hole collection of "The World of Autombiles" books, 22 volumes. Copy right 1974. I think there is every car ever made in there from A to Z, street cars and race cars, from all around the world. Plus articles on inovations, inventions, and how things work, to race drivers and who was who in the automotive business from the early days to the 1970's. I was 16 years old when I bought these, one book at a time, once a month intill I got the whole collection. I think they were put out by Columbia House.

My Elementary school had a series of small books on race car drivers, I did a report on a few A.J. and Mario was 2 I read a few times.
