Help Me ID a Race From 1963...ish

Let me pick the collective memory here.

I watched a B&W replay of a vintage race from about '63 several years back. I'm trying to figure out which race. It may have been in Europe. Here is what I barely remember.

-Standing start on a straightaway,
-White '63 or '64 Galaxie screams down the track followed several seconds later by the rest of the field
-Galaxie is crushing the smaller cars but has a small problem with the brakes catching fire (fronts drums)
-Some brake work is performed in the pits, car comes back out on the track
-Galaxie's brakes fail and it plows off of the end of a straight
-Race officials don't bother removing car from track and pile hay bales around the back end sticking up

Does this ring a bell for anyone? I've tried searching for it without any luck.

The small cars throw me off. If it were all American sedans on a road track, Riverside would come to mind. With the smaller cars in the mix, an endurance race comes to mind instead. That would suggest to me that I start researching the starting grid at LeMans at about that time.

These ran most famously during the 1963 and 1964 British and European Touring car championships. However several were also very popular and successful in Australia during this time as well. Maybe Greg knows something about that?

It may be Brian Muir. I was only to locate one comment somewhere about him 'pranging' a Galaxie following brake failure at Brands Hatch.

Ford did run some Galaxie's in Europe in the '60's. Some did well, others didn't. The car in Olskoolslotz pic is a '63, I know because that was the 2nd car I owned. The 2 doors came in two flavors, 2 door hardtop, like mine, then midyear they came out with the fastback model, considered a '63 1/2. I knew a guy whos parents bought him a brand new fastback for Christmas, a 427 model. Nice car, except it was an automatic. He was the manager of the downtown Woolworth's store at 22. He was drafted about a year later, and I never seen him again. I often wonder what happened to him. :)

Hi, sorry to come in late on this one but just back from ten fantastic days in Hawaii :D

A ten hour plane trip back to Sydney Australia followed by a three hour car trip home but so worth it.

The white Galaxie mentioned in the first post couldabeen the Willment car driven by Jack Sears. Hope the link below works.

Chris.

I remember watching the same race as the OP...

It was a program called Legends of Motorsports (or something like that). It was hosted by David Hobbs (I think), and I think he's still a commentator for F1 races.

You guys rock! That's it exactly. I was hoping someone here would remember it.

It might have been over 10 years since I saw it. It stuck in my head.

It's one of the race liverys I wanted to replicate. Thank You for letting me pick the brains.

I remember seeing that race on that program although it has been several years ago. Funny how certain things stick in the mind. Not a good day for the big Fords.
