Christopher was Commissioned into the United States Air Force today. The ceremony was really nice and the entire thing went very well...up until it came time to pin the rank on him. His mother, sister, girlfriend, and I went onto the stage to do this. About half way across the stage I suddenly realized I couldn't see. Seems something got into my eyes...
I managed to get through that and the photos but as soon as we went to hug I almost completely lost it. Poor kid has a complete sap for a father...
Luckily, I was able to cowboy up and get through the rest. He heads out to WPAFB in August to get his Masters in Physics.
This is not the greatest picture, but the pro ones that were done are a few days/week out from being done.
Thanks for letting me share.

David,
Congrats! I know the feeling. My feelings were very similar when my son was made a "Butter Bean" in the National Guard almost 10 years ago. He had joined the National Guard and when he completed his college education his platoon sergeant recommended him for OCS. He went, completed his training and was comissioned.
I had shared a thought with him prior to his going to OCS and being comissioned, "Life in the military as an officer is so much better than that of an enlisted person." After his first weekend drill as a 2nd Lieutenant, he told me how much better it was. That was a PT weekend and all he had to do was write down the times of the rest of his company rather then running the mile and a half.

Wow. Don't I remember photos that included this guy as a boy playing in the snow or riding an ATV, and of course, beside a plastic track? I'm getting old... Good luck and congrats to him. Grad school is a long road and a lot of work, but the joy of it makes it up fast. My youngest told me once that, "...if studying Physics doesn't make you dizzy and your heart beat faster, you must be doing it wrong."
When you aren't floating a foot off the ground anymore in a few days, be sure to remember to send us the other shots.

Thanks folk! As soon as I get some better pictures, I'll post them up. It was really a great day. What was funny is that CU had their graduation yesterday as well and surprisingly there were some folks there in uniform. Watching him get saluted by other Officers and Cadets now was pretty weird.
As for the studying of Physics...it makes me dizzy just thinking about it...
We went out as a family tonight and celebrated at a place called the Melting Pot. We like fondue and while I'd love to show pictures, it is nothing like what Harry posts...
