What makes you say that? My picture may not be perfect?

Let's see, it's got the 39 grill but the 40 headlights.................... As I remember, back in the stone age, when AMT was making this and the sedan in their "3 in 1" days, you had the choice to build it 39 or 40 and in the "suggestions" on the back of the instructions (remember those?) they showed the 40 "chevron" taillights, 40 headlights and 39 grill as a way a lot of the "California" hot rodders were customizing their cars. Not saying it makes the box right, just considering the possible source for the picture. But then I remember this kit having an "MSRP" of $1.49 or $2.00

In all these years, including the years I drove a '41 DeLuxe, I never saw two versions of a '40 grill. You're pretty sure of the photo, right? It isn't a '39 grill in a '40?

Amazing. I had no idea. The '40 had so many innovations, it is a sort of landmark for old Fords, so I've seen it a lot. My '41 was the first year of an all-metal floorboard, but that's about it. In '41, you still chose between a 60 and an 85 horse engine. I really don't know when that started, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was a new option in 1940. The '40 had a laundry list of innovations and style changes.
