Interesting Scrap Metal

I picked up two rolls of aluminum sheet. This is the thin stuff that they make gutters out of on the site. A friend works for a construction company and they threw it away and so he got it for me. What would you make out of it? Slot car related. I have a list of other uses, but what would you do with it. I do have a metal brake.

I saw a neat scenic item a guy made out of opened and flattened aluminium cans. He used two strips of wood which were contoured and then he pressed them together with the sheet aluminium inbetween....hey presto!..... Armco barrier!

Where did I see that?

If it's used for rolling guttering it might be a little thick for pressing armco. You could roll it. Or how about building an aluminium slot box?

I knew when I seen the title it was Dan. If it's like most roll guttering it probably isn't over .015" thick. That's what mine are on the house, and they are thin. The way they form them makes them a little tougher, but don't lean a ladder on them. :)

I have two who rolls of it. What people throw away is amazing. It may be too thick to make the Armco BUT I may try anyway. I hate telling myself something can't be done. Two rolls give a lot of material to ruin. Ruined then can be scrapped. My ideas:

1. Pods and chassis. This is similar to the Armco idea in forming.
2. Buildings/structures for around the track.

Obviously I ran out of ideas. I will put a micrometer on it and get a thickness.

Scrap it and use the money to buy more cars……….

You could punch them out and make some good shims. Different sizes for the guides and axles.

About 3-4 million! Actually won't be hard and a good use of the scrap from other projects.

How about some "L" shaped material to use for mounting bodies?

Glue to the inside of the body, then epoxy a nut to the backside of the material and attach it to the chassis using a machine screw.

I keep a 12 inch roll of the stuff in my shop at all times. I've used it for almost everything, but not on a slot car, though I did try. It was always too heavy or too bendable. It makes a great ribbed tin roof for barns and outbuildings, though.
