Here we go again...

Three days of hot temps and high winds = fire.

The fire is about 12 miles from us.

Reported to be 400 acres now in only 3 hours and has taken out several homes. I've got friends with a large Great Pyrenees Rescue that are in the path of this thing. Can't get ahold of them. Hope they get the dogs out. News is reporting lots of horse trailers evacuating the area.

Doing the rain dance at the moment...not working yet.

Yeah Dave, I'm moving to NC in a year or so......maybe you could head that way  (go around Missouri or that guy in Dixon will snag you).
Seriously our prayers are with you and yours.....keep dancing!

Here we go again indeed. At least we all can be comforted by the knowledge that you aren't the kind of bonehead who refuses to evacuate. Have you made your plans yet, or is that something you have to have ready every year the way we did with hurricanes when I was kid on the bayou?

Good luck, David. Seems the fire danger periods get worse and longer each year.

Don't wait until the last minute. If you're going to evacuate do it early. Remember everyone will be doing the same thing at the same time. You don't want to be caught out there on the road.

Take care out there.

And here, in Québec, it's been raining almost non-stop for almost a month now. We're breaking rain records week after week. I would gladly send you some water right now... Good luck!

Send the rain here - and the dance is appreciated. I've got several friends who I suspect have lost homes tonight just from where the firelines are. The winds have shifted slightly west, so now we can really smell the smoke. Hopefully if it turns on itself there's nothing left and it goes out quickly.

Growing up here, we never had the issues we've had the last 10-15 years. The periods of drought have been devastating to the forested areas...and that's where I live. We've done lots of mitigation, but it will never be enough, and when your neighbors don't - it just won't matter if it happens.

Chris and I packed our bug-out gear, and I'm going to load some of my favorite cars into my box tonight and have them with me.

8000 acres in 8 hours. There are almost 1000's of homes in that area. Ft Carson has been flying choppers with water and PAFB is getting the MAF aircraft ready for tomorrow morning. The good news is Waldo Canton was a huge wake up last year and I think folks were a little more ready.

Our local firefighters and law enforcement folks have done an awesome job getting folks out. As a rural area, obviously there are lots of animals both wild and domestic.

The winds are dying down, but it will be windy and hot again tomorrow. That could suck.

I'm working from home tomorrow and we are packed and ready to go.

Be Safe Dave, I hope the fires go out, but not to much rain, all you need is mud slides on top of this burn

Our seasons are changing as well, no more big snows and our last few winters have been warmer, I have seen more armadillos in my home town this year than all the years of my life

Good luck Doc, keep the family safe

No worries here - we'll be gone the minute we get the order. I'm a Boy Scout and I'm always prepared.
