I think it is to hide features.
They + others are all under the same umbrella of Volkswagen:

That's one of the longest stories in racing. You can trace it all the way back to when Ferry Porsche was a driver (in competition with Enzo Ferrari), and working for Auto Union. Into the mix goes the Great Depression, WWII, the Cold War, German Reunification, the European Union and plenty more, including VW not being Volkswagen anymore yet owning Bentley. More specific to your question, the short version is that they have been connected and not connected on and off forever.

The idea of the paint work is to obfuscate the topography of the car, but it's awesome. Don't really give a rodent's about the car it covers. I just want to see His Lordship trying to follow it as he drives it around the track :lol: particularly after a few drinks. :evil:
