I fear my past as a science fiction movie/NASA Mercury Program/NASA Apollo Program geekster may be exposed. I used to live for the next space movie, then suddenly, it was real! I suppose the crap space movies of today get a bad shake from me. If they aren't black and white, its hard for me to get excited about them. The list of the best of the best of the B&W sci-fi movies will always include The Day the Earth Stood Still, though.

Attack of the 50 Foot Woman, which, amazingly, is only the third Woman Power movie produced in Hollywood. The first was a Katherine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy screenplay that was cut in half and made into two movies- Adam's Rib and Woman of the Year.

There was a band called Klaatu after the Beatles broke up that was suspiciously Beatlelike. It was even rumored Paul McCartney started it. :)

He was related to the robot in Forbidden Planet, but not the same. Actually, that's misleading. The robot from Forbidden Planet was rented for the filming of Lost In Space, and they modified Robby at that time.

There was a British flick I can't remember the name of, it was a ludicrous rocket plane that launched from a gigantic V-1 type ramp, and the pilot was astonished to discover that the builders included a secret test of a nuke during the flight. Lots of drama, lots of funny British special effects, but I just can't remember the name, because it was named something that didn't have a lot to do with the subject. Its the only other one I would include on your list.

I believe the robot from Forbidden Planet was named Tobor, which is just robot spelled backwards. I was kind of young when it came out.

The Day the Earth Stood Still had a scene where the woman in it was visiting her dead husband's grave, and his name was Robert Benson. At the time I had a friend who's name was Robert Benson. We used to act like we didn't see him because he was dead. :lol: Really ticked him off sometimes. :)

No, the robot in Forbidden Planet was "Robbie"...he made outfits for Anne Francis (heavy sigh) and booze for the ship's cook (can't remember the actor's name but later was the sergeant on "Police Woman"). And Leslie Neilsen was the ship's Captain with not a single "roger, Roger" or "Surely, you must be kidding" "I'm not kidding and don't call me Shirley".

Robby the Robot became more famous than his first appearance in the movies, in the 1970s and 80s. Practically every documentary about progress in robotics featured him in the few few minutes. I remember about Tobor, but I can't remember what it was. There was something though.
