Dunno if others feel the same but I'm super stoked to see this movie:


This trailer reminds me of that same feeling I first had when I became interested in racing as a kid - Amazing!

I became a race fan watching these guys on Saturday TV as a kid....when anything could and sometime did happen in a F1 race.
Different looking cars overtaking others, mistakes, power slides, recoveries - it was so different than today's version of "follow the leader".
It was exciting and dangerous - even on a 20 inch black and white TV.

Watch this one and you can feel just how dangerous these cars were - overhead camera:


The driver's feet are inches away from the front suspension/wheels - there is no protection at all

As a child, I didn't understand the back story back then - Didn't notice Lauda cuz I just thought Hunt was so cool.........much later I realized how troubled Hunt was and Lauda was/is all dude - he was back racing weeks after his horrible accident and ended up one of the greatest racers in F1 history (factoring in the speed vs conditions, technology, mortality and tracks they were racing with at that time).

A piece of history that should be a great movie - hope so!

I was at this race - Nürburgring in 1976. Didn't see it happen as we were on the other side of the track.

I talked my way into the pits at Hockenheimring in 1975 and have pictures of Hunt and a bunch of other drivers from about 4 feet away. The guys at the paddock entrance were amazed an American kid (almost 9 years old) had learned fluent German and let me and my dad in. Walked right in among the cars and teams. Did the same in a few more times. By 1983 they were tightening up safety quite a bit, but still got very close. Sat in Sachs Curve every year for the races.

My dad and I have probably 300-500 35mm slides of GP racing in Germany from when we lived there. I really need to transfer those to digital!

Just watched the "insider" stuff video on the site...it shows Hunt in front of a Scalextric set on the floor with the vintage grandstand...think Scaley will re-release the set now?

This movie is going to be great!

As soon as I saw the second video - I couldn't watch it. I've seen that only once and that was enough :(

Picked up the DVD on Friday and sat down to watch it last night. Seeing it on the theater screen and now again, I still say it has moved to number 1 in my book. I LOVE this era of F1GP and think they did racing proud with this one. Opie should be very proud of his efforts.

Dead Set, awesome movie.
All those lovely 70's F1 Cars. BRM, Lotus, March, Hesketh, Shadow, Etc Etc.
Loved it. Every second of it.
I think I'll be dragging all the 1/32 70's F1 cars out tomorrow.

Funny, I just rented from Redbox last night, now I gotta watch it!

I too have a copy of it sitting here waiting to be watched. Hopefully tonight.

Well I finally got to see it, albeit on a computer screen. Ron Howard really captured the era.....really took me back. I remember reading about Hesketh Racing in the magazines at the time. One thing that didn't come out in the movie....they had a mechanic that went by "Ball of String" who loved to work on bicycles! All in all a great movie; not a "racing movie" like LeMans or Grand Prix but a story about 2 giants of the sport with an excellent racing backdrop. I particularly liked the archival shots of the real folks at the end.

Finally got to watch it last week. The first half hour was kind of 'bubble gum', but once it got going, it was really, really good. :dance:

I downloaded the movie to my iPad mini. Cost me $15.00, which that's still cheaper than going to a theater. Plus, I get to watch it anytime (like on a trip to and from Michigan coming up soon :D ). Popcorn is way cheaper at home as well :lol: Oh, and drinks are pretty cheap as well, and they can even have alcohol in them... :dance:

The movie is great, IMHO, right up there with LeMans. The accident scene done at Nurburgring was simply amazing!! I swear they had to use some Fly or Scalextric F1 cars in some of the scenes.
