Watching a site on the Roku box and Shotgun's thread about his Cox Chappy kind of merged......there's a site called "PubDHub"; it's all old movies, tv, etc in the public domain. Well they have commercials, including a 1 hour stretch of the old 1 minute toy commercials in black and white......boy it brought back memories! As the other half and I were watching I kept saying "I had one of those, my brother had that". (She's convinced my parents were trying kill off my brother and I by buying us the most unsafe toys available). Here's some from the list, see if you remember them.

The ones they remade were horrible.

I remember "gassing up" using the big pump and watching them haul.

I was always a gun nut. I had cowboy guns and holster, Johnny Yuma "The Rebel" hip gun (mare's leg) Thompson machine gun, all the Mattel guns, Johnny 7 OMA, Secret Sam stuff, assorted suction cup dart guns of which the rubber tips were removed and the plastic projectiles were filed to a point, pea guns with stretched springs, and numerous bb guns. I also had construction type toys too. Never had a chemistry set, parents considered them dangerous. :lol:

I had robots as a kid. They looked humanoid, but instead of feet, they had tank treads. They were motorized and had cool flashy lights and stuff. One of them had a panel in back, and you could open the panel and replace a cog. Depending on the cog, the robot would drive in various patterns. One of the cogs was a self-destruct, so it would drive 2 feet, then an arm would pop off. It would change directions, go another few feet and the other arm would pop off. It would change directions again, drive a few more feet, and the head would fly off. It eventually tipped itself over backwards and shut itself off. Wish I could find those again!

A psychologist would have a field day with what's on here so far...

Dad was Army, so I had a huge assortment of real Army stuff. Most of it was WWII era, but not all. It was all fatigues and belts, hats and helmets, all manner of things to hang from the web belt, etc. I even had a hollow cast aluminum .45 used by ROTC color guards, and beside that, the toy guns in the stores didn't get my interest. But the world changed in 1962 when Aurora put out the little figure 8 Model Motoring set that I got for Christmas. I had always been nuts for things that move- ships, boats, trains, cars, trucks, tractors, etc. But that little gray Falcon and red Fairlane made everything take a back seat. I was hooked.

Shucks... I wish I still had ALL of them! I had some neat stuff when I was a kid.

That was made by Marx. Had one of those too. It was a fun!

Also had a Marx "Super Crane"... wow! 4' crane boom... all sorts of different attachments (clamshell, drag line, hook, demolition ball, etc), battery operated... PLAYED it to DEATH!

Who knew these toys would be worth HUNDREDS of dollars today???

I had a MONSTER GI collection as a kid. Got everything at a garage sale for $20. Had probably 10+ guys, tons of clothes, weapons, etc. The best? I had the chopper, the space capsule, and the mobile support unit. All parts worked. When we moved back to Germany I sold it all...probably got about $50. Don't ask what that stuff goes for now...

Same garage sale I sold my Raleigh Chopper bike that is now stupid money, the entire collection of Hardy Boy books including first-runs, and a Six-Million Dollar Man setup as well as the Evel Knievel bike set.

At least I kept my Hot Wheels, Aurora Slot Cars, Tonka Trucks and TONS of Legos...still have them ALL.

Hardy Boys! My school had all of them, in those fuzzy brown tweed hardbound editions. And Tom Swift, too. The Hardy Boys and the Great MDF Routing Mystery. Tom Swift and His Electric Grandmother. Ah, that's where we started.

Oops, forgot a killer toy -- the SST racers with the zip cord and the spinning flywheel. The bane of housepets everywhere.

Forgot about "VROOOM" stuff from Mattel. My brother and I both had the Indy Cars you swung around on the end of a string and he had the "motor" you put on your bike. All of them made this horrendous (to adult ears) roaring engine noise.....we loved it!

I just passed all of our old Tonka/Structo/BuddyL/Marx trucks and 60s era Lionel trains on to my Great Nephew. Among the trucks was the 1956 Ford firetruck you cou could hook up to the garden hose. The trains had the helicopter & missile launching cars and exploding boxcar.

I got my first 22 when I was 8, loved that gun

I liked the erector sets with motors legos was not out yet

but mostly living in the country we had dogs and horses a few cows and pigs, I got 50 chickens one year

we hunted and fished a lot and camped out in our club houses

the first video game I got was 1982 from Ft. Jackson PX, I was 18

I HAD THAT FIRE TRUCK!!!! It worked great. It was the perfect size, too. I had that thing until the black hose rotted away to nothing. My Lionel trains were a generation older than those with the missles and airplanes, but I remember seeing them running in the big department stores at Christmas.

Geez. You guys were born with silver spoons in your mouths. The only toys my freinds and I had were the ones we could
catch outdoors. We did usually get something good at Christmas. Something my brother and I had to share. A surefire
way to create sibling rivalry. It's probably why when I could earn my own money it all went into toys.

The old demolition cars with the pull cord and the ramps that was fun in the day
well the the boys in our club still plat demolition with slot cars LOL

I remember those, the SSP!
