So, last Saturday I bought a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sahara with 88k miles, the 4.0 6 cyl, a 4" lift and 33x12.5 tires. First Jeep ever and we are having a blast!
The wife was not interested at all during the search (it took a couple months to find the right one). The night we bought it she had a fundraiser to go to that was down about 8 miles of dirt road. When she came back the first thing she said was "I get it now. I didn't get the 'it's a Jeep thing' before but I get it now." My mother-in-law, who went with her, said "we better get 2".

There are! The color was not available in 2012 or 2013...Dozer was out, but that was more like CAT's color.

Other than the gas milage, you can't go wrong with a Jeep IMHO. Especially two!
This is Norm. It's an 88 Jeep that I have had for some time now.
It's extremely clean inside and out for something it's age but then again I have put some serious elbow grease into it as well. In fact I just did a Ford 8.8 rear axle swap w/ 4.10 gears and one additional perk other than gobs more strength is I now have rear disk brakes. :D
He's rolling on 33"s.

Dutch - that is SWEET! I love XJ's! We've had three of them. I just sold my '98 in March. Great 4x4 that went anywhere. Had I kept it, the 8.8 was next. Mine was named Snoopy...it was white. Funny that you name yours, our two JKUs are also named - Tigger and Oscar. The daughter's Libby is Kermit.

Hey all,
Sorry about not updating with photos. I haven't had time to create an account at a hosting site.
It's dark green with a tan (spice?) top. My 18 month old daughter named it "Turtle". Not a bad name, I just hope we never live up to it in our adventures.
I'll work on a snapshot.

Be careful, having a Jeep is addicting. I have been bitten by the bug since 1995 when I got my first CJ. I loved my old boxy Cherokee. I drove it till it had 250 K on the odometer. I drive a 2010 2 door JK Rubicon now and have had some of the best adventures of my life behind the wheel of it. The Jeep is called Little Ralphie in honor of my father the first Jeeper in the family who rode in one from Omaha Beach to the Battle of the Buldge and back without a scratch. He rides along with me in my heart when I go off road with it.
Nobody has told you that the Jeep life costs you money to do all the upgrades to make your Jeep better, that is what gets addicting. I have sunk over 3 grand in mine since I got back from my trip out West and have more to go before next years trip. The new tires are great but the minivan motor cannot push them, so I will be putting in 5.13 gears, some new balljoints and some front axle bracing for another grand or so. . You may wonder about the 5.13 gear ratio, with my new 35 inch tires the engine RPM at highway speed will be the same as a manual Rubicon (4.10) with stock tires or about 450 rpm higher than my Auto trans version with stock tires. Even with the stock tires on my Jeep this summer I drove most of the higher elevations in second gear on the highway. . .
