Computer help please

Postby chris » Sat Nov 02, 2013 7:52 pm

Hiya, I'm having big problems with the computer, I *think* it's the hard drive on the way out. It's about 8 years old so I ain't complainin'.

Anyways, I've saved all the files to an external hard drive but I don't know how to save my 'Favourites' list.
When I turn on the computer, it goes to the home page and I click on 'Favourites' and a drop down menu appears.

Could someone give me a dummies guide to how I can save it remembering I'm a 60 year old bus driver with minimal 'puter skills :?

Thanks for any help,

Chris.

Hi, Chris -- the standard way to save favorites is to export them. The export process varies a little bit, depending on which internet browser you use, and the version of the browser.

If you're using Internet Explorer (most likely), and the fact that the computer is 8 years old, it seems likely that you're using an older version of Internet Explorer. In this case, go in the upper left hand corner and click on 'File'. A menu will come up, and one of the choices will be 'Import and Export', or something similar. Choose export, and follow the steps.

This will create a file called 'bookmark.htm' -- take note of where bookmark.htm is saved, because you'll need to copy it so you can put it on the next hard drive. Once you have a new hard drive or computer, you'd go to Internet Explorer and do the same thing, except instead of export, you'd choose import.

Does this help? If you don't see where these things are, please let us know what kind of PC you have, and we'll go from there. :)
