Got my Chrissy book, biography on Wendell Scott the first black American to win a NASCAR race. And he won in In Jacksonville Alabama in 1964, beating a newbie driving a factory Plymouth #43. They didnt show the checkered flag to him and he continued to do several more laps not knowing what was going on. They finally showed the flag to the second placed person who was then awarded the trophy on the winner's rostrum.
Like a lot of early stock car racers he learnt his craft doing midnight moonshine runs. If them there po-lice caught yer they would beat the shite out of you and then arrest you. Very ineteresting read so far.
cheers
