My Dad was a scale model maker for Digital equipment corp in the 70's and 80's..
He'd get the blueprints of some new computer tower or some such thing and he and a very small team
would build scale models so the big wigs could see what it was all going to look like..

He's retired now but keeps himself busy by making things out of matchsticks..

Here's a car he made me for Christmas..

Image

He's a patient man.. there are just tons of different angles and lengths involved in even a smaller build like the car.

Image

Sometimes he finishes a project and decides to build it in half size or double size..

Here's 2 different sized Taj Mahals.. Thats my Dad, Wendell~

and some other stuff.. There's more, just don't have pictures handy~

I'm going to be asking Dad to help build some trackside stuff for me out of matchsticks and popsicle sticks..
I think it will be right up his alley :)

Ditto.

But about the trackside idea... Try to imagine a slot car smashing right through something beautiful. You should build a big wall to keep that from happening. A friend of mine had the idea to build an HO track with trolley cars running around on it, catenary wires overhead and all. The cars never hit them, but people's sleeves tore them to shreds when cars went off the track and had to be retrieved during a race.

Your Dad's an artist - and an engineer.

Look at the precision of those joints. I bet the trackside buildings will be plenty strong enough to withstand the odd knock.

When he's done all your buildings, maybe you could persuade him to start soldering brass rod and make you a fleet of sprint cars. :)

I think it would be fine, unless you let the SEMO boys over :laughing-rolling: that Taj is over the top

That is awesome, the trackside stuff is an awesome idea as well!

My first thought was to get him some brass and put that skill to makin you some chassis!! LOL!
