People in the Northeast are used to this sort of thing, but we just had our 13th storm of the season with more on the way, so we are being slowly ground down. Most of the towns in my area have run low on salt and don't know when they can get more. It snowed at my place until the middle of the afternoon, then it turned into rain. I went out to clear the driveway, there was 10 inches of snow, fluffy underneath and wet on top. I wanted to remove the snow before the wet stuff had a chance to freeze. My street had not been cleared, it is a dead end and is usually done last. I had already gone to bed when the plow showed up a 11:15. Chances are that the pile of snow in front of my driveway is frozen solid.
A couple of days ago I saw pictures of the storm that caused major problems in the Atlanta area. That one looked like a light dusting to me, but it brought back memories of when I was in the Army and was stationed at Fort Gordon, near Augusta GA. I was watching a movie one Saturday afternoon at the main post theater when the lights went out. A little snow had fallen, I did not think much of it and I had some time on my hands, so a friend and I decided to drive over to a local college and visit the library. There was about an inch of slush on the roads, I was having no problem driving my '67 Firebird, but cars were sliding off the road all over the place and the wet snow on the power lines brought down a lot of wires.
