"LUCAS" then refer to the following.......

Postby TsgtRet » Thu Mar 13, 2014 7:15 pm

Having owned 2 Spitfires, 2 TR3s and a Rover I can bear witness to all of the following: :laughing-rolling:

The Lucas motto: "Get home before dark."

Lucas denies having invented darkness. But they still claim "sudden, unexpected darkness may occur"

Lucas--inventor of the first intermittent wiper.

Lucas--inventor of the self-dimming headlamp.

The three-position Lucas switch--DIM, FLICKER and OFF.

The other three switch settings--SMOKE, SMOLDER and IGNITE.

Lucas dip-switch positions: LOW and BLOW

The original anti-theft devices--Lucas Electric products.

"I've had a Lucas pacemaker for years and have never experienced any prob... :scared-eek:

If Lucas made guns, wars would not start either.

Did you hear about the Lucas powered torpedo? It sank.

It's not true that Lucas, in 1947, tried to get Parliament to repeal Ohm's Law. They withdrew their efforts when they met too much resistance.

Did you hear the one about the guy that peeked into a Land Rover and asked the owner "How can you tell one switch from another at night, since they all look the same?" "He replied, it doesn't matter which one you use, nothing happens!"

Back in the '70s Lucas decided to diversify its product line and began manufacturing vacuum cleaners. It was the only product they offered which didn't suck.

Quality Assurance phoned and advised the Lucas engineering guy that they had trouble with his design shorting out. So he made the wires longer.

Why do the English drink warm beer? Lucas made the refrigerators, too.

Alexander Graham Bell invented the Telephone. Thomas Edison invented the Light Bulb. Joseph Lucas invented the Short Circuit.

Recommended procedure before taking on a repair of Lucas equipment: check the position of the stars, kill a chicken and walk three times sunwise around your car chanting: "Oh mighty Prince of Darkness protect your unworthy servant." :bow-blue:

Lucas systems actually use AC instead of DC; they just have a random frequency.

Recently, Lucas won out over Bosch to supply the electrical for the new Volkswagens. So, now the cars from the Black Forest will come with electrics supplied by the Lord of Darkness -- how appropriate!

Lucas is an acronym for Loose, Unsoldered, Connections and Splices.

Al of those are so true! Lucas- Lord of Darkness.

As I said in the other thread you must have a certain amount of the specially designed and manufactures Lucas smoke or your electronics will not function. It is actually the release of the smoke that causes the problem in the electronics. Every time my Jensen Healey release some of the smoke it stops functioning shortly thereafter.

I haven't tried in years but you used to be able to go on ebay and enter Jensen Healey or Lucas and Smoke and you could still find the rare bottle or can of "Lucas Smoke" to replenish your system. I have found it also works in my Alfa Romeos. It seems their electrical systems were based on the famous Lucas designs as were fiats (fix it again toni).

Our Fiat 124 Spyder never had a single electrical failure. The MGA had them all, nothing was left. But we lost syncros in the transmission on the Fiat, one at a time, over a period of 6 weeks, until it was almost undriveable. I traded it for a motorcycle finally. A Honda. You thought I was going to say Moto Guzzi, didn't you? Nope, I went for reliability and rode that bugger for years and years. I rode it to help fix Triumphs, Moto Guzzis, and a Bennelli.

I think this was all discussed elsewhere, but I might as well kick in my experiences with sports
car electrics. Of the two Spitfires I had, I never had an electrical problem that left me stranded.
The heater switch went goofy on one, but I didn't drive either in the winter. The E-type never had
an electrical problem, probably because I drove it every day. After I stopped using it over the winter
months, getting it up and running in the spring usually had some surprises. The Ferrari was originally
a Chinetti race car, so I expected it to be unreliable. If somebody spit on the sidewalk across the street
the Marelli ignition would not fire. Probably why Ferraris used to come with two distributors. The Alfa
Romeo I bought new. On the day after I picked it up I decided to take a drive in the country. I got 15
miles away from my house and the cigarette lighter decided to blaze up for no reason. It took out the
main fuse, which was one of those foil-around-a-ceramic-peanut affairs, and the car shut down. I pulled
the wire to the lighter and fixed the fuse, and made it home. The dealer said it would be three to six
weeks to get another lighter. Since I don't smoke, I just pulled out the wires to it and covered the burnt
hole in the consol with an Alfa roundel. The Porsche has been such an electrical nightmare I won't
discuss that here, except to say that it isn't entirely the factory's fault.
