Yahoo! Sites

Postby RichD » Tue Jul 01, 2014 10:49 am

Is anyone else out there having a problem with their Yahoo! group site? For years HOCOC used Yahoo Groups as its primary site, it is useful because it can send e-mails to anyone that is a member of the site and is a good place to keep files because they do not get compressed. About a day ago the HOCOC Yahoo! site stopped working and so has a number of other Yahoo! sites that I have checked.

I noticed that flickr (a Yahoo site) changed the way in which their photos are viewed. Now, there seems to be no way to pull an image url, which basically means that anyone who used to rely on that site to host images viewable in HRW threads can no longer use flickr to host images. It looks like all of my old photos are still showing up in old threads, but I'm sunk when it comes to posting new images. I guess I need a new image host. :(

I can still link to Flickr, I have always had to go around the merry-go-round to do that. First I go to You, then Photostream and click on the picture that I want to link to. Then I click on More ways to share (the box with an arrow coming out of it at the bottom right of the page) I select BB code and Original, then left click on the text in the box to highlite everything. I hit Ctrl and C to copy that and Ctrl and V to paste everything into my post. I then have to erase the text that I don't want before I hit Submit. I'll bet there is a better way, but it works.

I was able to get to the Yahoo! sites using my laptop, which runs with Windows 7 and has IE11. My desktop has the dreaded Vista with IE9, IE11 does not work with Vista. I was able to use Google Chrome to connect to Yahoo! however. Yahoo! must have changed something on their end. I tried a Google search for Yahoo groups but the links from that did not work via IE9.

Try Photobucket Goose. Even Facebook. Sounds like Yahoo/Flickr is a wash. I mean if that is what you have to go through, time to move on I would think?

I am a moderator for the HOCOC Yahoo! group site, so I need access. The site is a convenient way to get a message out to everyone (about 300 people) that have signed up to the site. We have been using the site for twelve years. I have some of my articles in the Files section of the HOCOC Yahoo! site. If I put those on Google Drive the pictures get badly degraded and the hyperlinks do not always work. I was hoping that there was a setting that I could change with IE9 to be able to get to the Yahoo! sites, but Chrome does work.

Did not mean anything badly, was mostly just referring to photo hosting. 12 years is a long time and sounds like you simply have to keep it going, I respect that.

If you want, I can host your work. Be glad to. So if you want any articles hosted/HTML converted, I'll help the best I can. You could still post the links in your group and the photo posting might be easier for you.

HOCOC now has a very nice Weebly website. http://hococ.weebly.com/
My articles are PDFs that often include links to sellers. I have done that to make it easier for people that are new to the hobby to assemble a car, however most BBs would be reluctant to host articles with links to non-advertisers. On one occasion I did send out a revised version of an article with the offending links removed.
As far as posting pictures goes I have no problems with either Flickr or Photobucket.
