Floors

We are getting our floors sanded. MY daughter got a new house but they did not have the money to sand the floors so I bought the materials for her house and mine and her husband is doing the work on both. The estimate for mine from the commercial company was $1600 but the materials for both (sander, sanding disks, stain and sealer) is $450. A good deal I think!

BTW, Rafael (the step grand son from Cuba) is 14 and a freshman in high school! He is pulling staples from the crap carpet job the previous owner did to hold the carpet in place.

Oh my! Raphael is 14. Where has the time gone? I bet he's a pistol by now. I guess this means the baby is 4 or 5 now? Wow.

How about some pictures of these kids?

BYW, I suppose you know this, but whereas polyurethane is useless for fine furniture, it is great (make that indestructible), for floors.

Good. Now you can let the kids loose on them!

I had a friend in Ontario who let her grandkids loose on urethane floors, and one day she found them trying to skate on the floors (ice skate, that is), and after a few gasps, she found that the scars were easily polished out, nearly invisible. Amazing.

Watch out for the Minwax product, called "Poly" (a water soluble urethane). It is allergic to anything pine (aka, sterates). No traditional tack cloths, no sealers, no pine based anything. I don't use it at all for anything, but if water cleanup matters, just look out for any of the usual products used for any finish, as they have been based on pine products for generations.
