RIP James Garner. One of the old school actors that I've always admired.

Did you ever see the fantasy/history flick, "Sunset"? James Garner makes a completely believable Wyatt Earp near the end of his life when he was a technical associate in Hollywood for one of the Gunfight at the OK Corral movies (in the 1930s-- you never see it anymore because of a lot of racial remarks in the dialogue), about the famous gunfight between the Earp bros and Doc Holiday, versus a gang of thugs, the beginning of the Clanton gang. Even Bruce Willis as Tom Mix can't mess that one up, and James Garner makes the movie. There actually was another movie where James Garner played Wyatt Erap, but I cen't remember the name of it.

I saw that on some website when it happened. I think Jenny may have sent it to me.

It just happens that 3 of my favorite movies are all James Garner films:
The Great Escape
Grand Prix
Murphy's Romance
Also liked Tank and there is one he made, I don't remember the name; he played an American officer that the Germans were trying to fool into thinking the war was over in order to get information. They told him he had amnesia but he had gotten a paper cut of all things and still had it "years later".
I know he raced for a while and when they were getting ready to film Grand Prix he went to Bondurant's school (I think) who told him that if he hadn't become an actor he could have been a professional driver.
He will be missed and the fact he was a Veteran just added to the mystique.

Only watched Grand Prix again a few weeks ago. Sad news. Might have to dig up some Rockford Files on YouTube.

A movie/TV cowboy and PI, and a true to life car guy. The man had a good run, while entertaining us and himself along the way.
He owned (and drove) some cool race cars in his lifetime.
If you get it from your TV provider, Turner Classic Movies channel is going to be running a James Garner 24 hour marathon.
It's going to be Monday, July 28th. Go to tcm.com for lots of Jim Garner info and the schedule. "Check your local listings"!
Maybe that thunder you hear is Mr. Garner and Mr. McQueen tearin' up the heavens!
Another favorite gone... Ernie :>(

James Garner in my opinion was one of those stars that could work TV, the Big Screen or even stage.
He played in so many different shows that he was able to display his talents in so many different ways.
Regardless of whether he was a Cowboy, Race Car Driver, Private Investigator or Astronaut, James Garner always brought the best in the part out.
Here's a list of the movies he played a part in:
Dust to Glory 2005
The Notebook 2004
Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood 2002
One Special Night 2002
Atlantis: the Lost Empire 2001
Space Cowboys 2000
Twilight 1998
My Fellow Americans 1996
Breathing Lessons 1994
Maverick 1994
Fire in the Sky 1993
Barbarians at the Gate 1992
The Distinguished Gentleman 1992

One Little Indian 1973
They Only Kill Their Masters 1972
Skin Game 1971
Support Your Local Gunfighter 1971
A Man Called Sledge 1970
Marlowe 1969
Support Your Local Sheriff 1969
How Sweet It Is 1968
The Pink Jungle 1968
Hour of the Gun 1967

36 Hours 1964
The Americanization of Emily 1964
The Great Escape 1963
The Thrill of It All 1963
The Wheeler Dealers 1963
Boys' Night Out 1962
The Children's Hour 1962
Cash McCall 1959

Darby's Rangers 1957

I have watched most of them and enjoyed all of them.
James Garner was one of the greats, a quiet man, but super talented. He will be missed.
R.I.P. James Garner.

I remember James Garner on the Tonight Show.He and Johnny were talking about being wounded..In true James Garner fashion,he revealed one of his wounds was being hit in the backside. They both shared a good laugh over this.

36 Hours was the movie I was thinking of (officer with "amnesia").
And I forgot about Cash McCall.....I think he had a civilianized A-26 Invader in that as his private transport.
Rewatched Murphy's Romance last night.........."next time somebody asks, say 'yes'".
The thing I liked about his acting was that he never seemed to be trying real hard, just a regular guy.
