My Eye

got to take off work today

while driving home last night my eye started to ache

could not sleep, went to urgent care this morning, had a scratch on my cornea and something in my eye

sent to eye doctor, he cut the rust out of it

2nd time for me, I am very safe and always wear safety glasses and shields

you just never know

Lucky it wasn't hot when it got in there. Yes, it happened to me. It hit the corner of my eye, missed the cornea, and landed on the right lens of my glasses. It was hot enough to make a mark on the polycarbonate lens. I lost some sleep that night thinking about my eye. Every time I hear about someone doing something like it, I shudder. I am so very glad you are okay, Jon. Pay attention to the antibiotics they give you. It matters, even years from now.

Take care of yourself Jon. Not a nice situation, but thankfully it'll heal. Have you got to wear a patch for a while?

I actually had a near miss working in an office of all places. Opened a goopy bottle of Liquid Paper and tiny specks splattered everywhere off the brush. Somehow I managed to blink before being hit with most of it. Went and cleaned white spots off my face but noticed my vision was a little dodgy in one eye. When I took the contact lens out it had a couple of white specks. Not as quick as i thought I was.

And you guys all laugh at OH&S training for office workers.

On the bright side, tears will help keep the eye clean, so everyone can hit you with all the gags they can muster in the name of recovery.

Years ago I began wearing safety goggles religiously. I am very thankful that I have perfect eyesight to this day and can't count the number of times something has bounced off of them.

I actually wear safety sunglasses daily. I once had a very expensive pair of "cool" sunglasses shatter on my face. Yeah, the $19 Home Depot OSHA ones work just fine now ;)

My loss of use of my right eye was not from an accident. It was due to having high negative vision in the eye and the retina just separated.

However, regardless of the cause, I miss the vision in that eye each and every day. There is a total loss of depth perception that has caused me many issues. I have surrendered my DL as I felt I could be the cause of injury to someone if I did not. I miss driving, but I especially miss being able to ride my motorcycles on a regular basis.

The loss of my eyesight was something not in my control, but yours is for sure something you can control. You need to ask yourself what you are doing wrong as this was the second time you have had something in your eye.

Please take care of your eyesight as you have no idea just how much you will miss it once it's gone.

I've had that happen, and I know how much it hurts. I finally had to go to an eye surgeon to have the piece of steel removed after fighting with the morons where I worked for 3 days as they kept saying there wasn't anything in it. After removal of the steel the doctor said another day and I would have went blind in that eye. So in retaliation I told all the bosses at work I had considered suing them all for practicing medicine without a license. :)

Nearly forty years ago, when I was a teenager I worked at an aluminum shop and was hit in the eye with a steel splinter while sawing some stock. I never paid much attention to my vision back then. I had good eyesight as a child. But I noticed after the incident that things looked blurrier in the distance in the one eye. To this day my eyesight has always been a bit better in the one eye than the other. Most accidents take a mere fraction of a second. Take care of yourself.
