Yesterday I attended a great annual event presented by the Long Island Jaguar Driver's Club. This is held on the grounds of the mansion owned by the family of William K. Vanderbilt, Jr., builder of the Long Island Motor Parkway, one of the first (if not the first) paved highways in the US, and he is of course The "Vanderbilt" in the famous international "Cup" races bearing his name from the early 1900's.
The Vanderbilt Cup trophy was also presented to IndyCar Champions annually. Highlights of the over 100 vehicles presented yesterday:
* '50's LeMans spec C-Type Jaguar race car, with white number roundels and triple Weber carbs (they were slightly damp, of course!)
*Cheetah race car, dual quad small block Chevy, glowing in red paint with a traditional three segment white competition stripe.
*1960's spec Ford GT40 race car (2000 CAV continuation series) *XK 120, 140, & 150 Jaguars along with many gorgeous E-Types (XKE).
*Kaiser-Darin triple yellow sportscar, the first museum quality example of these unique vehicles that my eyes have ever seen in person.
*Along with Aston Martin, Bently, Jensen Interceptor, MG, Triumph, BMW,and many other exotic classics, there were six original
Studebaker Avanti cars and a single beautiful early 1950's Corvette roadster (white, of course) to hold up the red, white, and blue!
**I will add a photo link when one becomes available from the club.**
I did not take photos as I was walking the entire field, shaking hands and passing out Long Island Auto Replica Society flyers to hundreds of spectators and show participants. This was to promote our model car club and the annual Model Car Challenge show/swap meet
to be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 here in Freeport, Long Island, NY.
And... I made more than a few people happy as I informed them that slot car racing is still alive and well,
both in the commercial venues and in the home!
I hope everyone had as much automotive fun this weekend as my brother Tom, my good friend Alan and I did.
All three of us are looking forward to another fun season of our favorite hobby - SLOT CAR RACING! -- Thanks for reading... Ernie :>)

Sounds like a great way to spend the day and getting the word out on slot car racing never hurts!
Look forward to seeing pics when they become available.
Thanks! :D

I intended to go, but couldn't make it. Do link to photos when you have a chance - sounds like a great group of cars and the venue is outstanding.

Good job promoting the model car scene!

Thanks much. Tonight is our monthly LIARS meeting at the community center on 27A in Blue Point, just east of Nicolls Rd.
it's our annual club auction, where members donate kits and other model/car related stuff to raise money for the treasury.
As you can probably guess, our big show in Freeport Nov. 8th cost more than a few bucks to run! Every little bit helps.
You're more than welcome to come and participate tonight or any month, always on the third Thursday.
I know the guys would love to see some of your creations! -- Ernie
