Why is my vintage slot Car book so valuable?

I have The Book "Vintage slot cars"by Phillipe de Lespinay and noticed on Amazon and the Ebay that the asking prices are very high.I obtained it about 10 years ago for 12 bucks brand new.What gives?

Due mostly to the Author and the quality and accuracy of the content.

A staggering amount of work went into this publication by actual enthusiasts and likely will not be another like it in our lifetime.

I think it's possible that Phillipe did not publish in overly large numbers. Not sure if he self published it. A very knowledge-able fellow with a staggering collection.

I remember a fantastic black and white book book that i checked out in the eighties.I think it goes for big bucks nowadays.The guy built a basement layout using routed masonite and the braid had to be laid down with a soldering iron.It was powered by 12 volt auto batteries.
