Went to a beer tasting at a friend's home. He had these in the smoker all day:

No shown are the huge chicken, other pork shoulder and a mound more of ribs. Thought I'd lost my way and ended up in Dixon, MO...

The evening was to determine which beer(s) the ladies could stand since none of them like it. We had a total of 38 varieties:

Had a blast! Found one the wife could actually drink.

Ok, so, as a home brewer you have me curious as to the preferred "ladies beer."

Strange but true, it was a Youngling Porter sent over from Philadelphia by a friend that got me drinking beer. I do tend to prefer the darker varieties even now. I have a nice recipe for a chocolate stout. :) I also did a choc-caramalt ale once that you could almost serve on ice ream.

In order of popularity (yes, I actually kept a spreadsheet of the ladies' tasting results - Yes/No/H##L NO!):

1) Pumpkin Ale (Homebrewed by my buddy, Jeff)
2) Leinenkugel's Orange Shandy
3) Silverback Pale Ale
4-T) New Belgium Snapshot Pale Ale
Paulaner Heffe-Weissen
5-T) Wild Blue Lager
Chimay Rouge

It was pretty funny watching the reactions to some of the taste-tests. Jeff was very surprised his home-brewed Pumpkin Pale Ale won. It is very good!

I myself am not much for hops, so I tend to avoid all of the insanely popular IPA's and go with a dark or towards the wheats if it is hot out.

Uh oh. Looks like I need to step up my game in the cooking.

I figured going to CA it was going to be all tofu and Perrier... Glad to hear Dave has real food! Whew!

Well, that's another things we have in common, David. Let's see, 6 wheel Tyrells, 1960s NASCAR, 4WD that doesn't wreck the countryside, WWII aircraft, wheat beers, any kind of meat that will hold still long enough to get a good char-basting done- okay, with a side salad...

My favorite wheat beer is Amber Wheat, from Abita Brewery just outside New Orleans, and I like every heffe I've ever tried, especially the unfiltered ones.

I confess, I did make a Chinese hot&sour soup a few years back that had cubed tofu in it, but I'm still with Robin Williams about the silly imported waters- "Avian spelled backwards is pretty close to naive".

It's closer than you think Rob, because it is spelt Evian.

Not tried a pumpkin ale. True IPAs are hoppy because they were made to travel. They're also stronger than the average.

But on a very hot day the slightly floral dryness of a goo wheat is hard to beat.

That's hilarious. Is that really how its spelled? Its been a decade since I saw a label.

Yup. Hate the mass produced commercial gassy stuff. But give me a living, breathing, crafted brew and I'm a happy girl.

I'm very proud of both of you, if I may say so.

My local brewery has one called Little London - this stuff is awesome!
