Some days you should not get out of bed

Postby Ember » Tue Nov 04, 2014 10:48 pm

Today feels rather like one of them.

I have spent the last week or two trying to put together some cars for a proxy that I have been doing for the last few years. This year my heart is not really in it as there are other things on my bench that I would rather be working with. Nevertheless, I thought I should enter one class. A dear friend insisted I should enter both and sent me a car for the second class and paid my entry fees.

Both cars have been problematic and have fought long and hard. After problems on the weekend which put both builds back to square one I was going to withdraw my entries. Anyway the same dear friend talked me out of it.

The cars need to be in the mail tomorrow. I'd set today aside for final testing. Oh dear.

Let's see... Putting the Celica together for final trials I managed to break the mount on the chassis. Joy. I have a spare chassis but no time to do the major guide reconstruction on it. Ok let's sit that aside and think.

Testing my RS200 I noticed a wheel rubbing. I'd left a little too much corner on it. An easy fix. To the Tire Razor we go to take care of it. Only the Tire Razor won't work. The motor turns without any load, but as soon as the resistance of the drive belt is added it stalls. Hmmm.... Turn up the power on the PSU. Nope, variable PSU won't adjust. Pot just spins. Took the TR to the other side of the room to run it from the track supply. Nope, still won't go. Sigh. Eventually sorted the tyres the old-fashioned way, over the track.

Quick run of my friend's cars before I send them interstate and one won't run. Couldn't see any problems. Eventually tracked it down to too tight a mesh on the crown. Phew!

So, back to the Celica problem. I have an old one on the shelf from the same proxy 3 years ago. I'll use the chassis from it. Great. Reaming the wheels a little because they were too tight on the axle and broke my SCC reamer. Ugh!

What's next?

WOW...
I've had days like that! Where you stop look at things and say to yourself "Really?!?"
Hope the day squares around for you...
If not - it may be worth take a 15 minute beverage break to watch the world go by and then try again... :)

Ah, but the fun these times bring :)

Like sanding/cleaning my latest RMS tonight. Had it just right. But one more look over and a little more fine grit sandpaper work...and then slam my elbow on the table and watch the car fly across the room and hit the concrete floor. Doc makes a fine resin, but at that speed and distance? I walked over to it and lost an A pillar. I was amazed. No big deal really, won't be the first A pillar casualty here.

But to have Doc call me right after it and ask: "Hey what are you working on?". Priceless :)

Hang in there...I second that prescription for the beverage.

Yep I too hate those days when eveything goes south.
It seems nothin goes right.
What I do on days like that is get a nice tall cold drink,
grab my favorite car and turn some laps to my favorite tune and try to just enjoy a nice run on my track.l hope what I do to get back in the grove so to speak helps you out

Good grief. Would you believe I just had the body sitting on the top of my SCC set-up plate (the heavy aluminum one) when the both managed to go tumbling to the floor. And like buttered toast it landed in the way it could cause the most grief. Fortunately no major damage but it has popped the glass back out and the interior tray will need regluing.

Where's that beer?!?

I understand completely. Spent last night building one of Shotguns bathtub 356 on a shortened Artin. Finally got it painted, etc.....then after I "Futured" it the white paint started to "spiderweb" allowing the dark primer to show through. I'll try another day to wet sand it and try again. I'll take that beverage!

Checked all that and have pulled the motor down and cleaned it out. Checked the brushes etc. Just seems to have no power. I even hooked it direct to a freshly charged 12V battery. That's got enough guts to allow me to run an axle, but as soon as a tyre thinks about grazing the paper it stalls. I guess it's a problem with the motor. I was going to get in touch with you when I've got rid of these proxy cars to get some specs on the motor so I can search for a replacement.

I have had days like that. Nothing seems to go right more than once. I can't do the beverage thing due to the meds I take, so I just get a Klondike bar out of freezer and get busy with it. It gives me time to relax for a few minutes before I return to the problem at hand. It will get better, just takes time. :)

Yep, hang in there!

Take a step back, take a few deep breaths , get a cool drink and walk away from it for a little bit to clear your thoughts.....

This helps me tremendously when I am frustrated with a build that isn't going well.

Come back to it a little later with a clear head and perspective of what you need to do.

Everything will work out fine in the end I am sure of it!!!!

Sky is blue. Birds are singing. I have coffee and I managed a solid night sleep for the first time in a week or more. It's a pretty good start.

Got to take those pesky cars to the post office and get rid of them for a few months. Yay!

Here are the evil critters.

And one for WRC class.

This is the nasty pasty that broke my reamer and very nearly broke my spirit. It's also on its third chassis and second windscreen glass.
