A mate bought a magna-braid track after having a copper tape track - What he likes most about the MB is he can drive cars that he bought more because he likes the car rather than to race with out a lot of set up. Secondly he now has 2 options for racing a mag race and a magless race.

He doesn't have any breaks with the braid so no more emergency soldering mid race

Some cars despite all your best efforts just seem to handle better on a magnet track

I have never heard of a drag strip with Magnabraid, there must be a few out there someplace. As for 1/32nd road courses and ovals Magnabraid is sometime a stepping stone between running with heavy magnets on plastic track and going without magnetic downforce entirely. Magnabraid is actually a mixture of steel and copper strands, so its conductivity falls between the two materials. With Magnabraid you get somewhat less downforce than you would with regular rails, I would guess 70-80% of what you would have on a Scalextric track. With Magnabraid you will get better connections than with plastic track and better durability than copper tape. Magnabraid is more expensive than tinned copper braid.

Hasse Nilson rebuilt my American Windsor with Jim Honeycutt's Magnebraid and it provided long term durability (steel vs. copper) with the versatility of having either mag or non-mag classes and no glue. I wouldn't consider a track that didn't have the option of magnetic downforce and either would today's slot car manufacturers. The only reason it wasn't used in the '60's is because it didn't exist.
