I'm an hour south of Dickie and we only got 4 inches of snow.. but it was also heavy and wet.. We lost power for 36 hours
from Wednesday night at 7pm right through Thanksgiving.. We cooked the ham on the grill in the garage, and used our RV
for the stovetop and oven since the electric stove in our house isn't hooked up to the generator.. Friends in the next town
were out till Saturday evening as well.. Was very surprised at the power loss for what appeared to be a small amount of snow..

..and Dickie, my plow truck broke too.. relays are clicking, but plow doesn't go up or down or left or right :mad:
Of course it's stuck in the down position :lol: Hopefully my ribs will be healed up enough to use the snow blower by
the time the next storm comes.. 'cause we all know they will come!

Hate to see it sir. We had ice last nice...but nothing that bad.

Kev, check that the oil isn't frozen (really). It appears that over the years that hydraulic oil attracts moisture to the point where it will freeze when the temp dips below freezing. On my Myers "Change oil yearly" is cast into the lift cyl. head. I had to pull all my cyls. and put them in the shop overnite to thaw them and then replace the fluid which is a special moisture resistant fluid. (read expensive) made for snowplows.

Its warm today, and the plow is going up and down, but not right left.
Might be a joystick issue too.. when I put the joystick left or right, the plow goes up..

I'm going to pull the pistons and drain everything.. I had to thaw it a couple times last year
with a jet type type heater to get it to work. Waiting on a friend to come over a lend a hand :)

Hey Dickie, technically "fall sucks". You haven't seen winter yet this year. :)

What is it with plows this year, I went to get mine ready the other day, and nope it wasnt working either.
I have another winch which I think I will install, as they dont make parts for the old one anymore.

I live about 40 mi. west of Kev, but at a higher elevation. We had about 10" of heavy wet snow & lost power from 3:30 PM Wednesday until 1:30 PM Sunday. I don't plow my own driveway, so I didn't have a snowplow to mess with, but I did have three big downed branches to cut up & move before I could use the plowed driveway. I might not have had the conventional Thanksgiving meal, but I did have a hot meal cooked on top of the wood stove.:)

When we lived in Texas, there was a crazy ice storm, like nothing anyone had seen there. Everything had 4-8 inches of clear ice on it, and everything was flat on the ground from bushes to outbuildings. The huge Arizona Ash tree in my front yard split (just like your evergreen), into 4 huge tree-sized hunks, and blocked two streets. My yard was on CNN. The city of Waco borrowed rescue and utility crews from Dallas and Austin to come help. One of the big trucks full of 8 or 10 heavily shielded, helmeted guys with chain saws I probably couldn't lift came by and saw me hacking away with a an axe, and got on the radio (which was hooked up to a big speaker horn on the roof), and called it in, saying, "We're gonna stop here for a while. We've got a Paul Bunyan out here!" They very kindly, but firmly, escorted me me inside the house and went at it. It sounded like a young war outside for half an hour, and when they came to knock on the front door to tell me it was "all clear" and I could safely come out of the house, it was all piled up like cordwood at the street curb on two sides, ready for pickup, in rows 100 feet long and three logs high. The only things still in my yard were the wedge cuts I made with my axe, and the twigs broken off by the treefall. I couldn't believe how fast they worked. I barely got out of the house fast enough to thank them before they took off to save someone else's day. I know its not much beside what people in snow belt areas see, but I'm still very grateful for those guys so I tell the story whenever I can.

The next week, the big piles of wood were still there, of course, and my UPS guy asked if I would let he and his brother haul it off for firewood. I said yes, but Arizona Ash is junk wood, not worth anything as firewood. He siad they didn't care and would take everything but the Mimosa, which is very dangerous to burn, and it produces a poison gas when burned. The Mimosa was a tiny pile, so I happily said yes, and they came at 3pm that afternoon. They were hauling it away two pickup truck loads at a time for hours, finishing around 11pm that night. That night, some idiot came by and stole the pile of Mimosa! I had the only yard on the block that was clear for weeks until the utility and refuse people got everyone else's.

We're just starting the warm up to summer here. Had the last few days hovering around the 30C mark. The grass in the back yard was green last week. It's brown and crackly now. Doesn't take much.

Uhg! I've lost a tree in the winter... Not fun.
Glad nothing else was destroyed and/or anyone hurt!

I've been at my son's house in Hamburg NY for the past week.
It's not bad now but 7ft. of snow is still melting as we've had warm days for the last week.
Think about that for a minute. 7 FEET OF SNOW!
Now that is a reason to curse winter.

7 feet of snow in VERY short order too... Don't envy him! :-\
