Saw this in Lido Beach today:

I also saw a McLaren 12c Spyder that was sex on wheels and was so stunned I couldn't get the camera out in time. I did however have to smoke a cigarette afterwards ;)

Yup. That's really early. No holes in the tailgate, extra large treasure chest door, tiny back window... lovely. I think they were 28 hp in those days. They definitely were 6 volt, and the seats were not adjustable.

Many years ago, my daily driver was a 1965 Karmann-Ghia which was a 6 volt. I always parked on an incline to get a rolling start, to save battery. On those occasions when I had to use the starter and the windshield wipers, I had to keep driving an extra 20 minutes or so or face a dead battery later. When I finally sold it, to Rent-A-Relic, the rear fenders were so rusted they waved goodbye to cars behind me. The battery fell through the floor once and dragged on the pavement until I could pull over. A bungee cord wrapped from one armrest to the other behind the seats was what held the doors shut. It would still do 70mph, but it took a lot of nerve.
