Just remember you can easily tint a light grey darker with a little black. Use black oil paint to tint enamel or black artist's acrylic for water based paints.

I used a foam brush and painted my Carrera track with 2 shades of Ralph Lauren River Rock. I lucked out and found them in the boo boo box at HD and got them cheaper than the usual $35/quart price.
It completely changed the characteristics of the track. Needless to say it made it very grippy for all types of tires.
