New Project! Dragon's Tail Hill climb! video added.

Ok, The big build up is in the title  Truth is, I am just getting started on this project. So far, I have made a foamboard pattern, cut it out, and tested my amount of rise I wanted. I picked up the MDF today, and also bought myself a new router. I got the Bosch 1hp unit, that's a lot smaller than my big unit I have had for years. I transferred the pattern to the MDF, and have over half the lane routed before quitting time today. I hope to document this track build with more pictures, but I did not have my camera with me in the early stages. I can still get some tomorrow though, before I get any further.
The basic layout will give me a continuous loop track of just at 80 ft. the rise will not be a crown shredder, as it will only rise about four feet of the deck, that is at 28" off the floor. The overall layout will take up a full 4x8 sheet, and have a loop at the top, and one at the bottom. I have a Slotdragon timing system left over from a previous project, and plan on using it to get total timed runs from bottom to top and back to the bottom again. It will be fully landscaped, and set up primarily for smaller sports and rally cars. plenty of sliding room in the corners, and just enough wiggles and bends to keep it fun.
Hopefully, with the upcoming long weekend, I will be doing some test runs at least!
So stick around if your interested, and I wll keep adding some pictures and such, and who knows, maybe some of you would like to conquer the Dragon yourselves!Image

Excellent choice on the router, Bob. Ever since I got that little Bosch Pony, my other routers are gathering dust. There's just nothing that little bugger can't do. Its easy to make a speciality base for, too. I cut the braid gains for a 150 foot, 8 lane track with that rascal, and it still runs like new.

Well while you all were sleeping, I got busy. one picture shows the foamboard pattern I used for the layout and elevation tests. the other pics show the lanes routed in. and the last pic shows I was pretty darn close on my guess as to the overall run length! I had said it should be close to 80ft when done, and with my trusty wheel. it showed it to be right at 79 5"". not a bad guess! I had a couple of burbs, but nothing serious, since I free handed the whole track, it came out great to me. More to come.ImageImageImage
