Remedial scenery on the cheap/how to's and links!

Those of us that like vintage style scenery on our track,be it Oval or road course, can bennifit from this cheapo trick i use for tire barriers. You need one piece of 5/8" heater hose (automotive) and preferably a pvc cutter,but an exacto knife works also.
Simply cut the hose in the width that suits your particular era,then half them for securing in the corners or wherever you need some tires to stop errant cars! since they are rubber,they do not harm the cars. Also,by using the automotive heater hose,it has white reinforcement cords that show up kind of like white letter tires. (if you cock your head and squint a little).

Just a little addition to Harry's great fence How to. You can also go one step cheaper,and use steel coat hangers for the rods holding the fence. Most of the ones i use are at or about 3/32" dia. They work great,but obviously not as strong as Harry's version, but good enough for 1/32 cars.

Seriously, yes...great idea. I picked some old hangers up at a re-sale shop. Locoracer Tom made a chassis from it. I know, but that is just him!

This is not much of a how to,but rather a shared idea. While installing my light bridge, I realized I had done myself a huge favor,by making my hard to reach scenery modular! IF you have a spot that needs frequent cleaning or is to hard to reach to do detail work,measure up the area and build on a platform that can be removed. in my case I had an 8ft area that was only 2 inches wide,and clear across the table. I did all my trees and shrubs on the 1/4" ply,then dropped it in place! make as many or few pieces as you need to cover the area. here is an example.

I scratch built this out of paint stir sticks painted and some scrap wood for the risers.

Just stuff laying around the garage used to build grand stands on the cheap.

One other variation on Harry's fencing.....I did mine using bamboo skewers (a buck a hundred). I stapled mine to the edges where the lanes are close, but drilling/gluing would work too...and they are a little more forgiving than the steel posts. Just clip them off to length using pruning shears (as long as the wife doesn't see you).
