I belive that Shoreline Model Raceways was the first club to use XLR connectors on all of our tracks. Pin 1 is Black, pin 2 is White and pin 3 is Red. After a major race that was held at Area 51 Raceway the visiting drivers were so impressed that they went home and added XLR connectors to their own tracks. As far as I know all of the tracks that use XLR connectors have them wired the same way.

Glad I checked I probably would not have done it that way, I was leaning towards the middle pin (3) being ground.
Yes, when I saw pictures of the plugs they appealed to me on several different levels, first no exposed pins to break off, recessed mounting, no alligator clips to slip off, not a lot of hardware to keep track of, no worries of people hooking the wrong clip to the wrong post, etc. Plus they are pretty classy looking and at least at the place I shop not too expensive!
THX!

One other thing that I forgot to mention, get an extra female connector, then you can make an adapter to race on the tracks with your controller using the alligator clips.

You can see from the picture that I posted that my track has both XLR connectors and regular screw post connections. I also made an XLR to alligator clip adapter.
