Fascias and making layouts look finished. Ideas?

I completely dismantled my HO Scale "Little Le Mans" after my move & after the stuff sat in storage for a couple years I have dusted it all off & am using it to make a new version of it. The new layout will be about 5' x 10' & I want to make sure that this one looks as good on the bottom half as the old one did on the top. Even if it's simple I'd like the bottom half of the layout to look decent & finished. Bookshelves, storage, a nice curved fascia w/graphics on it (or whatever).

What have you guys done to give your layouts a finished look? I want to avoid the "unpainted 2" x 4''s & plywood" look.

Photos would be appreciated. Thanks.

My track is a fairly poor example as it was all scrounged material. But I cut a profile from 3mm MDF and painted it to sort of blend into landscape.Image
Next home track will hopefully be more furniture-worthy.

Mine is finished in black melamine paint with matching slot car cabinets on either side. I made it as a box so the sides are structural to keep it from sagging as it is 14' long. It is designed to fold up out of the way.

Many folks use masonite. You can get it in 4 x 8 sheets and even smaller sizes at Lowe's, Home Depot, etc.

My previous tracks never got the "finished" point, but I'd started using 1/8" Birch to front it that I'd cut into a contour for the track scenery - similar to Ember's.

The track is now in a nicely finished basement again and I'm struggling with what to do on this one. I do know at some point I'll probably be using a skirt to hide the legs.

I used 1x6 boards and painted them. I did the same on my last track and it worked well.
