Six local triathletes showed up at Electron Raceway on 8/7/2104 to flex their True Scale slot car muscle. Images of the grid and detailed finishing order are shown below. Here are the headlines:
• Rich’s 962 narrowly wins GT1 with three others snapping at his heels
• Jack’s Mustang edges out Rich’s Camaro for Trans Am honors
• Bob’s OSCAR spec XJ220 squeaks out a victory over Jack’s brand new Ford GT in a Cobra/Corvette mixed race

Track conditions were excellent. With only six participants, marshals were limited to two supplemented by a track call button. Results might have been different with a full complement of marshals.

True scale GT1
The grid was, as usual, dominated by Enzos (four in number). Rich ran his Porsche 962. James’ Jag was still “in the shop” so he opted to run an OSCAR spec. Firebird Trans Am. The race for the top spot was very close with four cars finishing within a lap of each other. Although no competitor broke the five second barrier, the top four came within a whisker of it. With the home field advantage and a bit of luck, Rich’s lone 962 managed to finish on top with 88.4 laps. Bob’s black/yellow Enzo (sporting a Plafit chassis), Jack’s purple Enzo and James’ red Firebird battled it out for the remaining spots on the podium. In the end, Bob bested the others by a few sections. Jack’s purple Enzo handled quite well and had no trouble negotiation the “jog” in the pit straight and managed to finish third, again by only a few sections over James. Ron’s red Enzo was a rocket, pulling others on the straights by a couple of feet. After the race, Ron was quoted as saying, “this car is simply too hot to handle!” Ron indicated that he has a new secret weapon under wraps – a great looking Porsche 962. Perhaps the longer tail of the 962 will loosen the chassis resulting in a more consistent ride – only time will tell.

Trans Am
This race was actually a mixed affair with TA2, Historic Trans Am and OSCAR spec Trans Am rides. The Scholer based cars comported themselves quite well but were, in fact, a bit slower than their small wheeled, OSCAR counterparts. Both Bob and James, running OSCAR rides, did some serious napping during the race and still finished third and fourth. Jack’s silver TA2 Mustang and Rich’s 67 Camaro were quite evenly matched turning nearly identical fast laps. The two battled it out head to head in several heats. In the end, Jack took the top spot on the podium by about a lap with Rich finishing second. In my opinion, Ron’s notchback Mustang won concourse – what a great looking car!!!!

Mixed Race
The race was originally billed as a Cobra/Corvette challenge but turned out to be a mixed race. Bob ran an OSCAR spec Jaguar XJ220. James ran his OSCAR spec 53 Corvette and Terry ran his Pelican Park spec Cooper. Again, the OSCAR spec cars had an advantage in the handling department. Bob’s gold XJ220 bested the field while James took several naps finishing third. Jack ran a great looking, Scholer based Ford GT (this car was developed for our new True Scale sports car class). The car ran on a TA2 chassis powered by a Deathstar. On its maiden voyage, the car was very fast and smooth. Jack managed a second place finish about a lap down from Bob. Rich’s 60 Corvette and Ron’s Cobra were very evenly matched both turning fast laps within a whisker of the five second barrier. Both Rich and Ron were "screwed". On the black lane, Rich's front suspension loosened up leading to a disastrous result - a loss of about three laps. Ron was plagued by the "offs of others. In the end, Rich bested Ron for fourth place by about a lap. Both cars are very competitive - so watch out guys!
