Those Flys aren't too bad. It was a close race (if you discount the 1st place finisher). Most of the cars were stock save for the wheels, tires and motor. The gearing was either 12:34, 12:36 or 12:38. In the 'old' days, when Fly was still solvent, we used to run Scaleys, Carrera and Fly together and Fly always seemed to be the preferred choice - in part, I think, because the motor and rear axle were semi-podded. The guys that took the time to fine tune a stock Fly were well rewarded. I think there is a another generation of racers that is learning what is involved to make a Fly/Flyslot run well. Just my opinion . . .
And for the record - the 1st place winner is the proverbial 'blind squirrel that occasionally finds a nut'!

I keep looking for that nut :)
I agree 100% on the Flyslot comments. There are still so many of these cars available to the racer that could make a great series.
The most important factor is that today we have MUCH improved tuning options than the "old days". I do not race competitively, but restoring/tuning my classic Fly collection is now much easier thanks to the wider range of parts available to me.

Are the original FLY 917 and the newer FlySlot 917 chassis identical?
