Shoreline Model Raceways New IROC Cars

Shoreline Model Raceways will now be running an IROC style race every week along with two other classes that use the driver's own cars. We had been running TransAm style IROC cars about every other week. Now there are five Racer DP cars (with more on the way) that have been tuned to have similar performance. The DP cars will stay with their own lanes while just the drivers rotate, that way each driver will run the same combination of lanes and cars.
Last night was our first race with the DP cars and they were a blast! For future races we may sometimes use cars provided by the person that is hosting that week's race. We have run Carrera Ferraris and SCX rally cars recently.
We are trying to make it easier for people to get started in slot racing. With the IROC cars people will have one class where they will be equal, at least with respect to equipment, right away. We have always had loaner cars for new people to use while they get up to speed with their own.

Which of the Shoreline tracks is this one?

After all these years, you guys have finally understood! ;-)

We have run IROC-style exclusively for the last 6 or 7 years here in Québec City. The fun factor has never gone away since we started doing that and we learn to adapt to a lot of different handling cars. Usually, the host has to provide 5 classes of cars each night (we once had 10 then 8 classes each time!) but when it's difficult, other members bring their own classes in.

What a great idea to introduce a race like that , where technical advantage is gone and it is up to drivers. I think as Christian states it is a good way of keeping the fun factor.
Good post Rich

The track in the picture is Lee Marquardt Speedway, it has hosted a number of proxy races.
The concept of running IROC cars is not new to us, we have done it for many years, but until a couple of years ago only intermittently. Eventually a bunch of dedicated TransAm IROC cars were built and those were run every other week. What is new is to run some sort of IROC race every week.

We have some old Parma Whisper Jet cars that we use as IROC cars. Many laps have been spent attempting to make them as close as possible in lap times and handling in there perspective lanes. The end result has been some of the best racing you can ask for as well as some of the most exciting. Seems that most people have forgotten the Whisper Jets and written them off, so they can be found for a very reasonable price. The fun we have had with them is endless and priceless.

An IROC class is the way to go with any car. It's equal and fun.
