...for a way to get out of the house and away from the Christmas madness for a day on Saturday, 12/15 (tomorrow as of this writing) and do some slot car racing?

IHSR's next race is tomorrow, 12/15 on the infamous Hellenbach Raceway in Charles Town, WVA. Yes, it's a long drive for most of us, but worth every minute. This may be the ultimate home track. 111 foot lap length, tight sections and a section whose brutish speed and dynamics recalls the commercial slot car raceways of old.

We run four classes, with the host opening his track around 8 am for practice, testing, tuning, bench racing, and tech (we tech 2 of the 4 classes, chosen that morning). The first class is run around 10 am, we run a second class before pizza lunch (pitching in for pizza is the only 'fee'), then finish up the afternoon with two more classes. Most guys are on the road home by 3:30 pm more or less. If there is interest and at the host's discretion, a fifth IROC race with cars of his choosing might be run.

Despite torrential downpours, despite being in the middle of nowhere, IHSR had it's best turnout of the season yesterday at Hellenbach Raceway! 17 racers showed up from Washington, DC, Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and MD. And this was without at least 3 or 4 regulars!!!

The monster that is Hellenbach Raceway is an irresistible attraction. Once you raced on it, the long drive becomes nothing more than a nuisance.

I saw Hellenbach just after the wiring was done and the track came alive. I still get emails from my partner wanting to go back and see Larry & Co. We were there to buy Larry's first track and bring it to my place. A great host, a fine man, and that new track is a wonder. Never had more fun on a track, commercial, private or anything else. My partner has built a huge steel building, with HO, 1/32nd, and 1/24th tracks, all of them large and perfect. We need to organize a visit to his place for Larry and all his guests to come and see what he inspired. WooHoo!
