Well that's the short and sweet version.
Now for a bit more detail!
It was a fantastic day of racing (as usual) at Buzzard Bay Raceways in Belleview, Florida. (now y'all can say I know a guy that spent time in Belleview! That's the northern version of Chatahootchee, Florida)
Opening time for the raceway was 1:00 PM. The clock was rolling up to the 1:00 PM point when we pulled into the drive. I got some quick practice, did some quick maintenance on my #58 Slot Car Corner sponsored Dodge Charger 500, then made sure all was good with my #2 Ford Sportsman Stocker.
Once that was completed, it was time to start the gab fest. Fubar and I had a grand time sitting and telling war stories, slot car lies and just about as much chat as we could. I think after Thunder Shores, we all knew it was going to be a gunfight more than a slot car race. That was without a doubt a very true statement.
When Pete Ross and Carl Fossil came along, it was almost time for the "Drivers, Start Your Engines" announcement. The activity started . . . . . and it was fast!
We did notice that the wives started their own little gab session in the living room. I'm glad the ladies all get along so well. It just makes it easier to bring the wife along with me - actually it is she that brings me along as without both eyes functioning, I chose to give up driving. For some reason, I do not have any sense of depth perception and prior to causing any harm to anyone, I just surrendered my driver's license.
From looking at the race report data, the fast groove at Buzzard Bay is the RED lane. Everyone got the most laps on that lane with Fubar, Pete and Marty each scoring a heat win of 100 laps on that lane. Both BLUE and GREEN lanes can be fast as we had heat winners score 100 laps in each of those lanes as well. The YELLOW lane appears to be the slow way around, even though for most of the race it is the short way around. Then there is the "Donut" . . . . . where you have the longest way around the track at that point. I found that out as Pete scored a come from behind victory on the Slot Car Corner Dodge Charger 500 when I was on that lane. But it was an awesome day for racing with some really good folks.
After the first 400 lap event was complete we headed to the food area. While no one served up any "Slotburgers", there was more than enough to go around for anyone that was hungry. Potato Salad, Baked Beans (Fubar is now the official "Beanie Weenie of Belleview"), Hot Dogs, Kielbasa, Pressure Smoked Boneless Ribs and Brownies. If you left hungry, it was your own fault.
For some reason I do remember taking a nap, or I thought I took a nap, or I was caught napping during the race. I don't know what it was, but Fubar sure did have a full tank of Nitrous Oxide in his white #56 Plymouth Road Runner. He walked us down the straight and schooled us in running the turns - also he dispensed uncounted lessons in nerf-ology of which he is a master-nerfer! But we just laughed, then laughed some more. All in good FUN and that's what we were there for, to have FUN with friends.
Well a couple of 2nd place finishes for me. Woo-Hoo! A great day of FUN, frivolity and playing with my little toy cars.
I'm already preparing for next month at Thunder Shores Raceway.
