Thunder Shores Racing Results - 10/19/2014

I'm sitting here completely and totally worn out. All I did was run 10 races today on what has to be the world's most intense track. The Bullring at Thunder Shores Raceway is an awesome place to race. The cars are so evenly matched because the straights are so short, that you had better learn how to pass and hope your competitors have a bit of compassion.

Linda & Pete Ross are fantastic hosts each and every time we come to their home. The track is always clean, the smiles on their faces are genuine and it makes for one fantastic day of racing.

I will not go into posting any of the results as I know Fubar is counting all the laps up right now and I don't want to spoil his fun. All I will say is that it was an awesome day!

If you have never raced on a small oval - we're talking 4 x 12 foot with 3 lanes - you have not experienced the absolute joy this type of racing provides. The cars are really not fast enough to inflict serious damage on themselves. Basically it's race a car, put it back at the end of the racing session. No parts box is handed to you as that is not required.

I have come to enjoy this type of racing so much that I'm now planning on building one for my home.

Good people, good tracks, outstanding racing and lots of friendships coming about.

Marty - that sounds like a good day to me! I'm planning an oval for next spring and keep going to this exact configuration. I had a 4x12 at one time and it was a good track with close racing. You are right about the speed too...no parts cars afterwards.

Yep, 10 racing classes.

All of us took responsibility for a task - like lining the cars up, moving the cars for photos, getting the total lap counts to Fubar, etc - so not one person had all the work to do.

We started our racing program at 2:00 PM - as advertised - and I do believe the final checkers fell right around 4:30 PM. Yep, a full day of fun-filled racing and then an afternoon of chili-mac and socializing. About the only thing we did not do was some square dancing. Maybe the next time.

I'm serious about this next comment: It just don't get any better than an afternoon of racing at Thunder Shores Raceway. It's got the true short track appeal - a 4 x 12 with 3 lanes is a short track. But the racing action is just so intense. There is a boisterous clatter and chatter coming from the participants between heats, but during the heats, there is a true "Sound of Silence" emanating from the race room. Oh there is a lot of "Whoops", "Sorrys" and "I didn't mean to do that" while racing, but not too much more.

At the end of the day, no one really wants to hit the door first. That means the day is over and we must return to our normal lifestyle. Let's see here - Sunday, November 16th is hopefully our next trip to Tunder Shores Raceway. I'm already looking forward to the trip.
