Route 66 Carrera Slot Car Arcade Machine..Video added..

Thought I would share my recent build.Kinda different then what were used to,but fun! Some of you may remember a few years back I tried to do the same thing.Worked, well kinda worked.I was trying to build something similar to this .An arcade game utilizing slot cars made back in the 60's.On my first attempt I over engineered the track with a routed system with pins to keep the cars on the track .They just were not reliable.Sometime they ran, then they wouldn't.Plus the machine had a large footprint to get every thing inside the cabinet.I wound up taking it apart and chalking it up to experience.
Well I was thinking the other day, which can be a bad thing ;) .Why not just use magnet cars on steel rail track.Have the voltage down to where they stay tracking...Set up a little track and tried her out.Seemed to work well. Now to build a cabinet.Wanted something no bigger then a pinball machine so that we could use a pinball glass. To fit every thing in,we decided to go with Carrera 1/43 cars and track. They fit just right size wise and run and run.Set the machine up where one can run against a ghost car,or two can play. This is fun.As you can tell from the photos, lots of wiring to divide the track into sections or blocks for you ex-railroad hobby folks..You must turn right when the car is on the right hand curve, left and straight to keep the car going.I used some ol' pinball leaf switches to handle the steering switching. We plan on installing some steering wheels, but for now I just made my own.I'll try to get a video up and show how she works later.Hope Ya'll don't mind me posting this as it's been a fun build and Kinda slot car related.
