HRW NASCAR cars have rolled into Ohio!

The big box from Bibbster arrived this week with a full fleet of HRW NASCAR cars! :)
I haven't had an opportunity to get into the contents yet - but looking forward to doing that this weekend!
The current "plan" is to run the qualifying, followed directly with racing, next Wednesday on the 144' UK Black road course at Mark's Model World.
Based on the results from the previous tracks, it looks like there should be some close racing!
Now... Is it Wednesday yet? :D

Sounds like fun. 144' for the little 1/32 fleet. Sounds like the days when I first started going to Louisville before the switch to total 1/24 scale. Have fun and bring the #17 or #9 to the front. :banana-gotpics: :banana-dance: :banana-dance: :banana-dance: :banana-dance: :banana-dance: :banana-dance:

We intend to! I have fellow forum member APalmer confirmed as a driver and will also hopefully have Slot Therapist joining in the fun!
Looking forward to getting a chance to see and run everyone's builds! :D

I can't wait to see how my #88 does on a speedway. With its heavy chassis and slow motor, you should be able to almost just pull the trigger and hold on tight, eh?

Have fun with them.

Finally had an opportunity to get a look at the field and have to say it is pretty impressive!
After getting multi-angle photos of each of the cars, they were all treated to a once over to make sure all screws were set as requested, a drop of oil applied to bushings and were cleaned with a light pass on tape in preparation for heading to the track tomorrow. The current plan is to at a minimum, knock out the qualifying portion and if I have enough enough support, I will run the race portion as well. (currently down on volunteers due to a bug going around this week.)
Will be posting pictures in the coming days!
Can hardly wait to start turning laps with them tomorrow!

WOW! What a great field of cars! :handgestures-thumbup:

I'll throw out a couple teaser shots of the cars getting staged for the two lane qualifying - as I won't be getting into the full summary until later on tonight - but wanted to share at least a little something to wet the appetite!
:D

Something to throw out there while I work on the posting of qualifying / race results... :)

After seeing how well these cars ran on the road course, and the rather short list of tracks on the docket for this proxy - would the group be interested in having the cars also run on a 69' banked tri-oval here at Mark's Model World - before getting shipped to the next venue?

Couple shots of the track:

Now for some results! :P

All drivers had an opportunity to hot lap each of the cars in "happy hour" prior to starting qualifying, helping each driver get a bit of a feel for the field and allowing each car to get "warmed up" prior to the individual qualifying runs.
Qualifying format was a 10 lap, back to back qualifying sprint in white lane, then yellow lane.
HRW member APalmer was at the wheel for white lane and local racer Jason Krantz at the controls for the yellow lane.

Directly after qualifying, the cars were sorted, tires given a light taping and each staged for racing! :banana-dance:

Racing utilized the first four lanes (Red, White, Green, Orange) - giving a good blend of of corner types.
Manning the controls:
Red lane - myself
White lane - HRW member APalmer
Green lane - local racer Mike Dolanski
Orange lane - HRW member Slot Therapist

Format was 2 minutes per lane, with drivers being responsible for marshaling their own deslots (if a marshal was not present at the corner in question).

When the final flag dropped everyone was impressed! There were some radical differences between car / chassis designs and their associated strengths/preferences - but what surprised everyone is just how close the final results were!
(A real testament to the builds!)

First up - lap totals and finishing postions:

Image

As can be noted in both the lap totals above - and the lap times below, it can be seen that some cars showed a distinct preference for the more radical corner differences of the Red "gutter" lane - while other cars showed a preference for lanes with more consistent / milder corner variations like Orange lane...

Driver comments - impressions:

I will work at uploading pictures and additional car data this weekend. :)
Again - GREAT group of cars guys!

Todd,
Thanks for getting the #17 into 2nd place. I take that the #9 deslotted since it had the second fasted overall times. Good runs for the Bibbster's two cars. Audi1 same results on my track as well as at Bibbster's. A fast car but uncontrollable. Hats off to all.
