Here's the crux of the problem, from Maurizio's post on The British Slot Forum:
"We're about halfway through the process. The issue was completely out of the blue - despite several trips to the factory, when everything seemed to be fine, the assembly line used spacers which were different from what was specified (2x0.05 instead of 2x0.20), something that could lead to early damage of the gearbox, which runs like a clockwork, but as such, requires the use of the specified parts!
This is my 21st consecutive day at work sad.gif - Two batches of cars have left already. Maybe not all, but quite a few cars will be available for Christmas, we think, deliveries permitting.
The bright side is that having checked personally now a few hundred gearboxes, other than the washers mistake, once fixed it runs like it should."
He and Andi Rowland (chief designer of the car), among others, have personally been disassembling cars and correcting the shim error.
Use Racie35's link and go to page 10 to follow the discussion. I doubt that the US will see any of these until after Christmas.
