Ferrari 312P Spyder

Postby VTECFOUR » Fri Feb 22, 2019 2:19 pm

My coupe turned out well, so I'm giving a Spyder version a go.

Image

Cut the roof off one of my resin casts and covered the gap with an undersheet of thin .015" styrene sheet to conform to the subtle body curves.

Image

Glued in another .015" sheet this time shaped and fitted to closely fill the opening.

Working out so far.

Opened up the cockpit in the filler plate. Mocked the body on my Coupe's chassis.

That helps to visualize the outcome.

Works for me.

That's looking pretty sweet. What glue do you use to glue the styrene to resin ?

Applied Lepage Super Glue Ultra Gel after sanding both glued surfaces.

Image

Reinforced the underplate with JB Weld fast setting epoxy for some extra strength.

Fabricated the snorkel intake from Sintra plastic and resin. The small rollbar was bent from aluminum tubing.

Puttying the seams is next and while it's drying the chassis fabrication begins. Going to build one of my inline FF050-motored hybrid adjust-o-wheelbase chassis. Want to see how it performs in comparison to a S can hybrid sidewinder chassis that's under my Coupe.

The first rollbar wasn't sitting well with me so a new hoop out of piano wire was bent and re-positioned.

That's better.

While the body putty's drying, I got the basic adjust-o-wheelbase chassis assembled. The FF050 motor pod's a 3D printed one, custom drawn for me that accepts Parma oilites.

I've been favoring the Sloting Plus Universal rounded keel guide lately instead of the red Scale Auto one. The lap counter in-slot sensors on some of the tracks at GVSCC do not recognize the red color for some reason.

Chassis's rolling and running.

Image

Body's mounted and looking good to me. Pretty low slung in the cockpit area so the driver figure will likely be on top of the slimline motor.
