Once I got down to the track I was unable to make an initial out of the box test drive. This was due to the fact that one of the spherical bushings was loose. But after removing the hub I was able to pop the bushing in place. After that I was able to give the car a test drive on my mdf road course. With the stock tires I was able to only get a lap time of 7.2 seconds. I also noticed that the front of the car seemed to have way too much float. The guide that comes with this car has a spring and a long post to allow vertical movement. This may be desired on some tracks but I have always preferred a fixed height guide with no vertical travel. For now I added about 7 gms. of weight just behind the guide but I will probably replace it with a PM wood track guide. I swapped a set of PG tires from my other Arrow Saleen and was able to turn a 6.75 second lap. This is still a good ways from the 6.15 second lap that my other Arrow Saleen has turned. But the other Saleen came with a higher rpm motor, a different motor pod and aluminum set screw front hubs. This one has a scaleauto FK180 22k rpm motor mounted in a scaleauto anglewinder motor pod. There is a weak magnet mounted just under the rear axle which on my magnet marshall only increased the downforce to 125gms. The front axle mounts have holes for grub screws to adjust axle height but there was only one screw. On my next visit to the track I will add additional screws and tune the front axle after replacing the guide. The pinion gear is brass while the spur gear is plastic on an aluminum hub similar to the slot.it stock anglewinder setup. I think after proper setup this car will turn laps in the 6.5 second range right with my slot.it anglewinder McLaren F1GTRs and the Porsche 911 GT1 98.
