Refubrishing your race cars

Postby Mayberryman » Fri Apr 10, 2015 3:09 pm

I was wondering how many if any of you completely disassemble your racing cars after an extended period of racing to repair body damage and replace suspect parts. One of my favorite classes is the Vintage TransAm class and I have been racing a couple of 70 Camaros for a little over two years with about a dozen organized races and a lot of practice laps on each. The two cars in question are both Chaparral Camaros with the battle damage to the paint and one of them with a piece missing off of the rear spoiler. I will place an order with a well known vendor for a couple of Camaro rear assemblies as where I race requires stock plastic rears and I have had a problem with rear hubs splitting. The cars will also be stripped of their present paint and painted another color so that I will have a unique car every time and not get mistaken for another stock livery. The motor will be spray cleaned and re oiled and the chassis checked for being flat. If I can ever figure out how to post pictures I will keep you up on the progress of revamping the old cars.

Oh, almost forgot new braid and motor wires will be installed.

Looking forward to hearing the process others go through.

Nope, never done it...Image

That's the bench right at this moment and here's what just came out of the sink:

Complete disassemble to get the dirt out, a waxing, and my normal tune plus add PGT Tires.

I'll be busy this weekend...

Can't wait to see yours!
