Thinking about switching to Revell track

Allan,
I like Carrera a lot. And I'm thinking about switching over. It would take awhile, but if I sell all my Scalextric track and accessories - I have an analog set, a digital set, the new arc app set, and literally tons of track and other stuff - I could probably get a decent 2-lane Carrera set up on my 4x16 table. It seems, however, that Carrera is expensive. At least when I see the sets on eBay.

one think too is if you are basically racing by your self or rarely with others, I don't think you will notice the Scally narrow width.

I change my configuration (120 feet) about once a year, so I enjoy that flexibility of the plastic track.

Valvarez, You can have lots of fun with a taped plastic track also. My vintage Strombecker 80ft 'r is all taped and smooth as it gets for power. it also has a completely painted surface, we run no magnets just like wood, and its a blast! I had just recently extended it also.

Yes Sir! no bad joints on my track! Same tape you use on the wood tracks. smooths out the joints and gets rid of that clickety clack sound on most tracks. And with the latex surface, its not to far off of a wood track. I also have it glued down, so there is no movement. And about fifty per cent of my aprons are plaster or bondo.

For the past 3 years ive run a 4x10 scaley layout, 38 foot lap that had r2,r3,r4curves
. It was a bladt to drive. It sat on top of the air hockey table, which my teen daughtet and friends want to use. The new layout will be L shaped, badic table frame is built out of metal stud materials.
Oh, the foot print is 9 x 13, but only 3 feet deep. Ive played with the area and still can use all the scaley curves except r 1s. Average length of most designs is 35 to 38 feet and no bowl of spaghetti look. When I settle on a layout I will try and emulate the fine work by Mr Taylor and the rest of the HRW crew. By the way if you have an extra scaley terminal track ( analog) send me a pm. The kids messed mine up in their excitement

Just to clarify some misinformation about Revell track. The slot depth is 1/4 inch, just like Carrera and Scalex Sport. It is as deep as those two. Artin also has this depth. Carrera is the best, hands down for the track design, fit and size. All the others are fine, too, but again your room size may be the determining factor for what you end up with. A table full of spaghetti is fine to eat, but will make a really challenging slot car track. For newbies and kids, simple is maybe a little better.

Well, with much deliberation - and the help of all of your advice - I have decided to sell my Scalextric track and accessories and go with Carrera Digital 1:32. Thanks for the help. I'll post pics eventually. Also, if you're looking for Scalextric stuff, feel free to ask.

Today is the day my Carrera set is to arrive. I went with the Road Hammers Digital set and picked up a silver cheetah car I'm converting to digital. Looking forward to setting up the track when it arrives. I'll be looking around this site for anyone selling/trading Carrera track and accessories.
